Enabled us to save our dog.
Our ten month old puppy slipped out the door, ran into traffic and was run over by an SUV. We got her to the emergency vet immediately and we were told the initial expenses would be around $8500. Since we had Embrace insurance, we asked them to try and save her. We pay $60 a month for an 80% reimbursement rate. $10,000 in vet care costs, one fixed puppy, and five weeks later, we have been reimbursed 80% of the bills as promised, minus the $200 deductible. The forms are extremely easy to understand and fill out, and the fact that they pay a set percentage of the bill instead of reviewing all the expenses to see what is allowed and disallowed has been a tremendous relief to us. As soon as we submitted the paperwork (just one simple form and a copy of a paid invoice from the vet) they kept in touch with us about the progress of the claim. The paperwork that we got informing us of our reimbursement was, again, very easy to understand. Thank you Embrace for coming through and enabling us to save our dog.I highly recommend them to anyone with a pet. You never know what will happen, and even if we pay $60 a month for the rest of our dog's life, it will still come out to less than what we have already been reimbursed.

So far so good
We have never had health ins for our dogs but this time I decided to go for it. My vet recommended another but they had bad ratings. The breeder - who is also a vet recommended Embrace. I checked vs other policies and made a judgement call with Embrace vs another plan that seemed sound. Thank goodness after a month only regular checkups and a case of guardia (sp?). The only thing I do not like is now that he had guardia it is now considered pre-existing and if he gets it again it is not covered until a year goes by and then his slate is wiped clean and they would cover it again. I also wish that I could pay for his wellness insurance in full & take advantage of a nice discount without having also to pay for the accident portion in full also (as that is the big chunk of $).

So far, so good.
All Wellness claims have been received and paid in a very timely manner. E-mails from the company are friendly sounding. Paperwork is easy to complete. The puppy is under a year old so we will see how it goes if and when other claims are to be filed. Thanks, Embrace!

Healthy Paws' Service Bowled Me Over
When I adopted Daisy (my sweet 10 pound Shih Tzu/Maltese mix) a year ago, I asked all my friends what pet insurance they recommended. No one liked the insurance carriers they had for their dogs. So I did my own research and was drawn to Healthy Paws as a company founded by pet lovers who wanted to do things a better way. And the simplicity of the plan coverage and language was irresistable.
Because Daisy is young (now just 2yrs) and healthy, I was looking for protection against any big events ahead. This past year she had a series of eye injuries (corneal ulcers)and we finally learned that both eyes had many tiny wayward lashes growing inside the eyelid rims, irritating her eyes so much that she pawed them or rubbed her face along furniture, increasing the injury. The cryo laser surgery required a general anesthetic and was a nerve wracking proposition, but Daisy came through it really well and we are hoping this is a permanent fix.
The claim I filed (via email) for an ER visit and the surgery that followed was quite large and I wasn't sure what the reimbursement would be. Healthy Paws astonished and thrilled me with the next day claim processing response and notice of very substantial reimbursement check en route. As this was my first experience with pet insurance, I could only wish my own healthcare insurance was half this good: the speed, service, professionalism and coverage made this such a positive experience.

Human Health Insurance Should Be This Good
I only wish my own health insurance provider was as speedy and un-bureaucratic! Our two claims to date have been processed promptly and applied to the deductible with a minimum of paperwork and no annoying stalling via nonsensical questions or endless forms to fill out. It's an old-fashioned reimburse-for-services plan: you pay; the vets submit the claim, and Embrace notifies you of the resolution (in these two cases within two weeks). I'm assuming this will continue once we meet the deductible and start getting actual reimbursements.
