My boyfriend and I rescued a 4 month old puppy in June. A friend, who is a Veterinarian recommend insurance and I wasn’t sold on the idea then. As our puppy got used to living with us, we noticed she would eat almost anything off of the ground. I was worried she would eventually eat something bad and we’d be stuck with a hefty vet bill, so I bought Trupanion as a precaution. A month later we came to find out our puppy had a life threatening heart condition with an unknown cause and ended up racking up almost 10 grand in vet bills trying to save her and give her a good quality of life. Unfortunately, we ran out of options to medically treat our puppy and we had to say goodbye to her after only having her for 3 months. Trupanion was the reason we were able to have another precious 2 months with our little baby. As someone who started off skeptical of pet insurance, I would recommend this insurance to all pet owners. Trupanion was professional and prompt with all services and claims. We appreciate all they did for us.

Company policy denied my claim
Got a new puppy, signed up for insurance and took the puppy to the vet. Vet determined there was a congenital defect with an eye and it had to be removed. Had the surgery, eye was removed. Because the insurance for the puppy was purchased within 5 days of his first vet appointment when this problem was diagnosed, they refused the claim. They got 1 month of premium out of me but they will never get another cent for this practice. I should have waited a week before taking him to the vet, my fault for not expecting an insurance company to be shady like this.

Prompt response
My 2.5 yr old mix breed dog was suddenly ill with a GI issue. We had to take her to the emergency vet and she was hospitalized for around 30 hours. Our bill was hefty, but healthy paws was prompt with their review and was quick to send out reimbursement. They even sent a follow up email to check on our dog. So sweet.
