They were very great, after a nudge ...
My wife and I adopted an older cat and put insurance on him the very first day. Since his history wasn't known or documented there weren't any pre-existing conditions. Unfortunately about 18 months in our boy started having health problems and things escalated quickly. He endured 3 emergency life saving surgeries in 3 months and it wasn't until the last surgery that the cause of all the issues was finally determined, he had cancer.
We submitted our first set of claims and heard nothing. We submitted more claims, and still radio silence. I sent emails, and no reply. Finally when I was about $6,000 out of pocket and not a single peep from Trupanion, and having found out he needed another surgery I called their customer service line. The person was extremely helpful and in reading the timeline of events even she was surprised that it had been 5 weeks of waiting and nobody from Trupanion had done anything to advance the case. We ended the call with the rep agreeing to escalate the issue and she would call me back when she had information. A few hours later i got a flood of emails that my claims were approved and a check was in the mail and true to her word, that rep called me back. She didn't provide explanation or excuses but simply said the problem was resolved and any claim submitted moving forward would be handled within a more appropriate timeframe.
Needless to say from that point on the claims process was flawless. We'd submit the claim and typically within 7 business days would have our reimbursement check.
Our boy ended up passing away but all told trupanion probably covered somewhere around $15,000 in 3 months for his treatments. I'm disappointed that during this stressful time they made it my responsibility to monitor them and hold them accountable to do their job but once someone finally took accountability they were excellent.

Better safe than sorry
My little dog was always a bit of a lemon, she always had something, an infection, kennel cough, or she would have an accident and turn her toenail the wrong was and nearly tear it off. So when many years ago she developed food allergies we decided to look into pet insurance because we were spending a fortune for vets and specialists. I looked up several reviews and decided upon Trupanion, and I have to admit in the beginning I was a little annoyed, we learned quickly that anything that was "pre-existing" was not covered, and that our $500 deductible was per diagnosis. So after about a year and a half, we didn't see any benefits. I was so annoyed I was tempted to cancel the insurance, boy am I glad I didn't. In the next few months, Chalupa was diagnosed with glaucoma, and the first surgery was easily over $3000 and after the $500 deductible we received 90% of costs (besides general exam fess) back. Truapanion easily paid for itself with just this one surgery. Since we met the $500 deductible years ago, any treatment for her glaucoma is covered. Chalupa has had pancreatitis and kidney disease and having the peace of mind that we can afford her treatment is invaluable. She is a member of the family, and she deserves insurance like anyone else. Trupanion has come through for us time and again, and I recommend it to everyone with pets.

Great value, great service, easy to use
As a editor-in-chief of the American Analysis of News and Media, Inc. (at usagovpolicy.com) I cover, among many issues, health care (for humans!) None of the various insurance plans, government or private, that I have reviewed provides service as honest or friendly as Healthy Paws. The rates are affordable, the claims process is easy to use, and reimbursement is prompt. I enthusiastically recommend the service to pet owners.

So far so good
I have an 8 mo old Yorkie who has had gastro issues from day 1. Once I met my $500 deductible,I began receiving reimbursement checks. Although the diagnosis doesn't change, sometimes claims move quickly, other times not so fast. I was recently told that they are very busy this time of year. People registering puppies from Christmas & Valentine's Day. Hmmm not so sure 🙄

Nothing but praise for Healthy Paws
Penny is my first dog ever, and I knew I wanted to purchase insurance but I was very confused about which to choose. After investigating my various options, I ended up picking Healthy Paws and I am SO THANKFUL that I did! Penny has been through a lot in the last few years (emergency gastrointestinal surgery, an extensive investigation into neurological issues that turned out to be liver disease, recent removal of a tumor in her mouth...) and I cannot say enough about how fantastic Healthy Paws has been every step of the way. From incredibly caring, kind, and responsive customer service representatives to a simple, clear, and straightforward claims submission/reimbursement process, I've never been less than 110% satisfied. I submit all of my claims online and the turnaround is always quick, and I am reimbursed for every cent that I had expected and hoped for - no surprises because I didn't read almost illegible fine print somewhere. They're truly outstanding - I got everything I could've hoped for and so much more with this insurance company. You never know what unfortunate circumstances you might encounter down the line when you first become a pet parent, and Healthy Paws gives me the ability to never have to make a decision on my little one's health based on finances alone. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
