VPI has poor, complicated coverage
I am a veterinarian and would NOT recommend VPI to any pet owner. The Benefits schedule is very confusing to pet owners and does not provide adequate coverage. Go with a company that provides simple reimbursement plans. Recently I had to refer my own cat to a specialist for cancer. The VPI process was extremely frustrating and time consuming. A similar situation happen with my other cat that had a fever of unknown origin.

Relieved
I purchased Embrace for my dog Izzy when she was ~ 1yr old, a few friends of mine had issues with their young dogs which required expensive surgeries. I was thankful that in 5yrs I did not have to use it. Then this year my dog developed a cancerous tumor which had to be removed, she had 3 tumors but only 1 was cancerous. The surgery cost $3000. The Embrace claim form was easy to download, was submitted with all paperwork right from my vets office and I received a reimbursement check in ~ 1 month. It was a relief to know that a portion of that large surgical bill would be covered.

Very happy with our VPI policies
We have the highest coverage plans for both of our dogs and every year they have paid for themselves in coverage we have received. From a couple emergencies to an ACL surgery and dental care, we get the full use from our plans and are very happy with them.

Nope.
Our Bernese mountain dog pup is 9 months old. She's well bred but she's been more sickly than we expected so early in her life. (We expected a fairly expensive adulthood as BMDs sometimes have lots of problems). So far in akmost 7 months of owning her we have spend over 3500 in vet bills.
This includes a spay/gastroplexy, microchip, emergency room visit & overnight hospitalization for pre-bloat, treatment for conjunctivitis, lyme disease test and treatment for Lyme disease (yep, positive), hurt paw exam & antibiotics, a vet visit over bleeding viral wart she'd chewed off her paw (now it's on her mouth!), an office visit to check on her spay stitches, vaccines, heart worm pills, routine checkups, flea and tick prevention, and I can't recall what else.
ASPCA approved reimbursements for 745$ of it. they do not pay the actual cost of procedures, they do not pay for all the required treatments. I think we are going to cancel our policy and just save 90$ per month for her vet bills. Next up we have to do an ortho scan (under general anesthesia) because she's still lame. That's several hundred I doubt they'll reimburse. It's a racket. Waste of money.

Best Thing For My Dogs
I can not say enough great things about Healthy Paws Pet Insurance. One of my dogs had to have major eye surgery and I am so thankful that I have coverage for her with Healthy Paws. I submitted the claim online on a Saturday night. Monday they emailed me asking for her complete medical history. I got that from my vet and emailed that to Healthy Paws. Thursday of the same week Healthy Paws notified me that the claim was complete and how much my reimbursement was. Fast and fair - who could ask for more than that??!!

I have zero complaints
They are fare when it comes to coverage, and excellent in regards to turn around time from when you submit until you receive payment.

Trupanion is Awesome!!!
Having extensively researched many pet insurances, comparing and reading reviews, we decided on Trupanion. We didn't think we would be taking advantage of it before our puppy turned 2 since she didn't go through the chewing stages that many of our others did in the past. She initially showed signs of a bladder infection, but after a day of no improvement with medication and symptoms worsening, the vet confirmed it was more serious and had to be resolved immediately. Emergency surgery was performed as one of the three stones removed proved to be life threatening. Upon payment settlement to our vets and establishments, we submitted the paperwork and total claim of $2,557.89 bill and after the $400 deductible (we chose which is another fantastic option), the $203 items not covered (which is spelled out when you apply)they paid us $1,759.40 (90% as promised) which is more than any other insurance would provide!! Even better, we faxed our paperwork on a 11/10 and received an email confirmation the same day, we received a followup email on 11/11 to indicate they were verifying, and another email 11/17 to confirm that payment was issued! ONE WEEK!! While we hope it's a LONG time before the next vet visit, we know we can count on them to help us provide the best possible care for our little dog!!

Embrace is the best!
As with every claim we have made, Embrace handled it quickly and efficiently and the coverage was exactly what we expected. The entire Embrace team is great to to work with. And, because our vet submits the paperwork, the whole process is very easy. We've recommended Embrace to all of our friends with pets and would never go without it in the future.
