Avoid the Wellness Care - Overpriced!
Let me start this by saying that overall, I love Nationwide. They've been great every time my pets have needed care. BUT -- the wellness care is not worth the price you pay for it. I was given a "hard sell" pitch when I called in to ask questions. I was not told that the deductible applied to the wellness care. Overall, I spent a great deal more on wellness care than I got out of it, even with a neuter surgery. I've been kicking myself all year for falling for the pitch and dishing out way more money than I should have. I can't wait for renewal to dump that portion of my dog's coverage. That said, if you're just looking for major medical coverage in case of accident or illness, you can't go wrong with Nationwide. Claims are easy to submit and paid relatively quickly. I've never had any problem getting claims paid, either, and I have been a customer for about 10 years.

Healthy Paws comes through again and again
I found my boy through Petfinder four years ago and i thought it critical to have a good health insurance plan for him. I did a lot of online searching and questioned many friends with pets and determined that Healthy Paws suited my needs. I couldn’t have made a wiser choice. Turned out that Petey had problem knees and the year after he joined our family, he tore the cruciate ligament in his right rear leg. The corrective surgery was major and expensive, and no questions asked, Healthy Paws covered 90 percent of the cost. I filed the claim, and in a week I received reimbursement. 50 percent of dogs who tear the cruciate in one leg may tear it in the other, and that’s wxaxtly what happened with Pete. This surgery was even more serious because his kneecap required repair as well. He’s
home two weeks now from surgery and doing well and Healthy Paws came through again. The check was in the mail within a few days of submitting the claim. The staff there is friendly, responsive, and dependable. I couldn’t ask for more. There have been moderate yearly premium increases, but that’s to be expected and they seem completely fair. I recommend Healthy Paws highly. They have provided me with a sense of security that makes taking care of my family member much easier and less challenging than it could be without them.

Won't Pay Out On Sudden Illness
I got Pet's Best after my puppy broke her leg and paid out almost $4400 in doctor bills. About three months after signing up she became very ill and would not eat or drink anything and had diarrhea. I called Pet's Best hotline and their recommendation was to take her in to the vet immediately. She was taken to our vet, given and IV and a checkup to the tune of $190. After months of status of "waiting for vet documents" and us calling the vet to make sure they had been faxed, we were denied with no explanation of why other than services claimed are bit covered. Apparently they cover sudden illness but not THIS sudden illness. Will be filing a complaint with Department of Insurance.
