I've had a wonderful experience with Nationwide Pet Insurance
My pup was diagnosed with cancer last year so we have had quite a few bills over the past year. Nationwide has made it very easy to submit claims and the Customer Service team has been Amazing every time I have called with questions! I also absolutely love that email submission for claims is now available- extremely quick service. I recommend this to anyone I know that gets a new pet and how wonderful it's been over the many hurdles we've had over the years.

Outstanding coverage, but sometimes claims come back too slowly
As an emergency room veterinarian with a pet with a lot of needs, let me be the first to say that this is the best value for coverage. Even with my own employee discount at my workplace, and not charging myself for examining my own dog, my baby girl racked up a bill of several thousand dollars over the year for everything from the routine vaccines to annual blood work and her brief hospitalization after getting into my first aid kit. Nationwide covered everything at 90% after the initial deductible. I believe the insurance, though admittedly a bit pricier than other plans out there, is so comprehensive that it paid for itself after just one trip to my facility (annual blood work, abdominal ultrasound for GI signs, hospitalization with IV fluids and meds with round the clock nursing care for 24 hours in the Chicagoland area). That said, if my work hadn't had a policy of not requiring employees to pay up front at the time of service, I don't know that I could have foot the bill. Nationwide sometimes takes too long to return my claims - once I think it took almost two months. That could pose a problem for individuals and their pets facing charges for particularly high-priced care, such as chemotherapy or urgent rescue measures (ie: successful CPR or emergency surgery). I would - and do - recommend this plan to anyone who has a pet and will listen, but I do think Nationwide can do more for its clients in shortening the turn-around time so people can make their credit card payments by the end of the month after getting their check back for insurance coverage.

Not worth the money
My husband and I decided to try this since it was offered through his employer's insurance plan. Our dog has Separation Anxiety due to a previously crappy life in and out of dog shelters and bad homes. He is on a prescription through our vet for Clomicalm to treat his anxiety. We were not told beforehand about it being considered a pre-existing condition, and I was actually told in the beginning by a Nationwide customer service rep that his medications would be covered as long as it wasn't preventative (such as flea/tick or heartworm). After I go to the trouble to get my vet's office to send over the prescription for his Clomicalm to Nationwide, I follow up with them only to be told they wouldn't cover it because it was a pre-existing condition. While I understand the need to have this rule for human insurance policies, I think it's dumb that they are applying to a pet's policy. The policy also has a $250 deductible, which honestly, is roughly what my dog's yearly vet bills total anyway. This is sych a waste of money. This insurance is only good if your pet is undergoing some massive surgery for cancer or something (which, to be honest, is when you really need to make the decision to put the animal down anyway since they don't live as long as we humans do). My husband and I are canceling our policy.

courteous people vis email but very slow processing claims.
Immediate response when a claim is received by email which is good. But no communication for weeks unless I make contact. It seems like it’s taking a long time for claims to be processed.

Stay away from Trupanion, NOT WORTH IT!
Stay away from Trupanion, I have 2 dog and a cat. I told them multiple times that I want all my payment at the same date, I mean SAME date, but they decided to charge me three different date during the month. They charge me over $80 per month and told me my cats emergency vet visit is not cover at all, and none of those count for the deductible!! I submit all my pets claims form, but none of those count as the deductible at all!!! After I canceled the policy with them, they still keep charging my card for it. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY IN THIS COMPANY, IT IS NOT WORTH YOUR TIME, ENERGY, AND MONEY!!!!

Easy Peasy
This is the best choice I ever made. I never had pet insurance before but decided I wanted it when I got my last puppy. It is so worth it. Very reasonably priced and the claim process is a piece of cake and super fast

Fast, efficient, available, & helpful
I love this company! My 3 year old had a tear in her ligament & had to have surgery. I got a pre-authorization from Pets Best before we moved forward with the surgery. After the surgery was done we got reimbursed quickly. On top of that, she randomly threw up & I called our ER vet to see what to do & they just said to watch her. I decided to call WhiskerDocs which is paid for through my Pets Best premium & the vet on call gave us so much helpful info. She explained because we were putting her pain killers in sausage, the grease from it has slowed down her digestion & we needed to reset her gut. She also recommended other ways to give her her medicine. It all worked! She’s doing so much better. I call WhiskerDocs a lot & they’re always so helpful. It’s definitely worth the premium we pay, we’ve saved
so much money on vet bills & we’re also more educated on our pets health. :-)

Grateful to have pet insurance.
I have had a dog in the past without pet insurance and I had to fork out quite a bit of money. It definitely makes it easier to have 2 dogs with pet insurance to cover there major expenses. One of my dogs needed her teeth cleaned and the pet insurance paid 90% of the cost, which was awesome!
