definitely not for exotic pets

There are very few exotic pet insurances out there, and I was told metlife was the exception. I was told wrong. I have had multiple complications and misinformation about my policy and what it covers from the moment I got my quote. I was told my policy would cover spay/neuter over the phone, but now I am told it isn't covered, and I am out 4,000 dollars with no assistance. (I have a rex rabbit btw)

Best pet insurance

I was able to give my dog the care he needed to save his life thanks to Healthy Paws. The claims process was simple, and reimbursement was fast. I could not ask for better service or care during a stressful time. There are no words to express my gratitude to my pet insurance company.

Better to not have insurance

They hide everything in the fine print. Their accident and illness plan doesn’t cover the emergency exam portion of your emergency visit which is often half of the price of taking your pet to an emergency vet. They also only pay $150 towards spay/neuter and won’t cover anything that is labeled as pre-op such as medications or the pre-op visit, even though they advertise covering spay/neuter. We paid $71/month for 9 months with a new puppy (lots of exams, vaccines, office visits, neuter, and emergency visits) and got reimbursed a whopping $200 total in that time because nothing is covered or even counts toward your deductible. It makes more sense to not have this insurance.

Asked me to return their reimbursements

ASPCA has been great... until last week, they reached out to me saying they had an error in their system, and they accidentally approved several claims that I had over 6+ months ago that they now believe were potentially caused by a preexisting condition. Which is not the case. And they now have the audacity to ask me to repay them over $600 in the next 30 days from reimbursements they made to me literally over 6 months ago. Absolutely absurd and unacceptable. I am good about not submitting claims that are truly for preexisting conditions, so this is just truly disappointing.

Pet Partners is a Waste of Money

Pet Partners is happy to take your money, but not to actually pay legitimate claims nor communicate changes in policy. An absolute waste of money. They neglected to tell me my dogs had “aged out” but kept taking my premiums for extra policies. When my Golden had an accident and tore his CCL (acl) they informed me that vets consider this injury an “orthopedic illness” and therefore not covered as an accident. This is absolute rubbish. There is language in the declarations page about a waiting period for CCL/ACL coverage but NO ACTUAL COVERAGE.

Healthy Paws is absolutely a must-have.

Healthy Paws is absolutely a must-have. We have 3 pets on our policy, two big dogs who recently passed around pneumonia for over 2 months, one required hospitalization. Healthy Paws had our back the whole way. Instant claims processing, direct deposit of reimbursements within days (not weeks). Healthy Paws + 0% APR Care Credit is the way to go to ensure your pets get the treatments they need, right away. Right after our pneumonia scares, one of our dogs tore his ACL!! Over $8,000 in treatments and counting, and Healthy Paws once again had our backs. We feel so safe knowing we have a Healthy Paws policy, that our pets are protected no matter what. We are 100% Healthy Paws for lifers and recommend them to anyone that doesn't have pet insurance yet or doesn't like their provider.

Avoid This Company – Terrible Experience

This insurance company has been incredibly frustrating to deal with. They don’t respond to emails, even though they recommend this as a way to communicate. When you call, they give you the runaround, and the information from one manager contradicts what another told me just days earlier. I paid premiums for six months to insure my two healthy cats. Both have all necessary international documentation, including microchips, passports, vaccines, and veterinary certificates. After six months, I took one of my cats to the vet for an ear infection and advice on food, as the cat had vomited three times in one week. The veterinarian explicitly noted in the medical file that vomiting is “not unusual.” The issue resolved entirely after switching food, which is also documented in the file. Despite this, the company claimed I hadn’t provided the “correct” medical documents—even though the documents I provided fully complied with the requirements outlined in their User Guide. I sent all required documentation when I enrolled and clearly stated, “If you need anything else, please contact me.” They never contacted me. Instead, six months later, they retroactively canceled my policy and promised a refund. It’s now been over three weeks, and I still haven’t received my money. To make matters worse, they created new policies for my cats and labeled everything from that vet visit—including notes from the anamnesis (not even a diagnosis)—as pre-existing conditions. For example, they listed: “Vomiting / Emesis and associated conditions” Seriously? Vomiting is a natural behavior for cats (e.g., regurgitating hairballs). It’s also a symptom of countless possible conditions. By labeling it a pre-existing condition, they’re essentially trying to exclude everything. This company doesn’t provide insurance—they provide excuses to deny coverage. Avoid them at all costs.

10/10 recommend

I am very thankful for Pets Best. They are so quick with receiving claims and I have had no issues with getting things claimed. Very fast and easy process. My dog had an unexpected mass on his leg this year, which required multiple biopsies and a MRI to diagnose. I was thankful Pets Best was so quick with their turn around time to help with the financial burden.
