Fast reimbursement
I submitted 2 claims for 2 cats. Even before I submitted the claims I received at least one, maybe 2 condolence calls on the death of one of the cats. The other cat had huge dental bills and a good bit of her costs, from our primary care and the specialist were covered. The checks came quickly.

Thank God for our ASPCA insurance
Our beloved Buttons , now 13 years old ,was recently diagnosed with lung cancer . She needed extensive surgery and follow-up care, the cost of which was high. The ASPCA claim was answered in a timely manner that was more than adequate to help cover the expenses. We have been a customer for nearly 4 years and highly recommend their services to anyone who wishes to have peace of mind when it comes to pet insurance. Thank you ASPCA

Excellent insurer
Trupanion is easy to work with; they're responsive, easy to deal with online and prices are reasonable. The expense has been totally worth it when we've had serious health concerns with our pets, i.e. requiring X-rays, lab tests, overnight stays at vet etc.

do not go there
I had insurance. My credit card did not go through so they told me about it. I gave them another one, went in the hospital. Come to find out three months later when I went to send my bills in for the last several months, they said that they cancelled my policy due to nonpayment. No one ever contacted me to tell me my credit card did not go through. Credit cards are declined every day for one reason or another. It was their responsibility to contact me when they cancelled my policy. They cancelled my coverage with no contact. FRAUD

Beofe choosing VPI undertand whtat they cover
Beware of their definition of "incident". My dog went into surgery to have her spleen and tumor removed. Simple surgery, out the next day. Estimate of $4,500. While in surgery they found an ulcer had perorated her intestines and she had major surgery that caused her to be in ICU for 8 days. One had nothing to do with the other. Then the results came back that the tumor was cancer so then chemo started. All three situations are considered "one episode" with a max benefit of $4,500 for a total cost of close to $25,000. But if I had the spleen removed, had them sew her back up, discharge next day, and then readmitted then that would have been considered another episode. That is cruel. So think good and hard. If you were like me I was looking for something that would help cover the extreme situations and have Bella's best interest at heart. This is not the company to choose. My last $750 bill for chemo and ultrasound I was reimbursed thirty nine cents. I am reporting them to the PA Insurance board.

Worth the money at the end
Easy to file a claim and reimbursed quickly (within 2 to 3 weeks after they receive the claim). I recommend VPI and will get again for our two new puppies when they arrive. My dog Max was covered since he was 7 months to the day he died at over 14 yrs old this March 2015. His coverage was the Superior Plan with Cancer Endorsement plus CareGuard Core Coverage with no medical exclusions. This year's cost was about $81 a month. Yes, it was on the expensive side but I wanted to be covered for the major expenses. I think when I first got it over 13 years ago it was $40 per month. His last bill was over 1,300 and VPI paid over $900. Through the years, when I did remember to file a claim, VPI reimbursed me about 30% to 50% for routine vet visit and medicine because I added the CareGuard Core Coverage. I simply faxed them the pre-filled Claim form which I could get anytime from their web site with the receipt and details of the bill I paid. I never had a problem. There's no time limit on when you can file a claim. I filed the last claim two months after I paid it. They even canceled the coverage when they saw Max had died without me having to tell them. If I had to name one improvement they could do, it would be for more details about my policy such as my monthly cost on their website. However, whenever I had a question about my policy, I could call them or email them and the response was quick.
