Good once you understand what to do
Overall the experience was fast and relatively painless. I have never used pet insurance or submitted a claim before, so it would have been helpful for it to lay out exactly what I wanted. Once I figured out what to do, it was pretty straightforward - fill out the forms, list all previous vets, and then submit the invoice. I wish Trupanion was attached to my vet to make this easier. I got back a large portion of what I had spent, so that was nice! Would definitely recommend pet insurance to anyone.

Satisfied Long Term Customer
We have been a Healthy Paws client for 10 plus years now and will remain with Healthy Paws as long as we have dogs in our lives. Healthy Paws is easy to work with, very responsive, and cover pretty much everything outside of normal wellness exams. We tried other pet insurers before settling on Healthy Paws and the difference in service levels is significant.

Healthy Paws is a MUST for Pet Owners
Healthy Paws has been a lifesaver for our family, I wouldn’t own a pet without it. I recently had to take my dog in for Emergency Care for ingesting ibuprofen, and she needed a 3 day stay including medication for her after care. Not having to question how to pay for the care she needed was huge. It was so easy to upload the invoice to start a claim through the app, and it was processed within 2 days, with constant communication. The customer care team even followed up to see how she was doing. I highly recommend Healthy Paws for their ease of use, care, and quick processing and reimbursement.

Hassle free
We just had a major surgery done on our dog. The vet was relieved to know it was Trupanion, I think, because they knew it would be hassle free. Trupanion preauthorized the surgery within hours of request, and paid 90% of the vet bill while I was paying the 10%. Vet was paid in full before I left the clinic. The negative of Trupanion is that apparently premiums depend on your postal code, which is biased. Having said that, I believe the premiums were reasonable in the early years, but escalate a lot past 5 years old. The escalation may cause people to cancel just when they need it most, as the pet ages, and the cost is sunk. That's insurance for you.

Poor claim communications
Our claim kept on getting delayed for more information. If I wasn’t diligent in follow up I would have never known. There was *no* communication from the company to me about what was needed. Only my calls to customer service and insistence that I speak to someone further up the chain resolved the issues. Deeply disappointed. After years of paying premiums for our dog (and cat) our first claim in 7 years was a circus. Now we are stuck with them, for better or worse, because of the universal pre-existing clauses in all per policies. Caveat Emptor.

This insurance does not cover any of the typical expenses. It is very confusing and misleading. They don't call you back.
I submitted over a $1,000 expense and after two months was told that none of the charges qualify for reimbursement. Out of the $1,000 claim, only $80 is applicable towards deductible. I tried calling, and after waiting on the phone for a hour, had to hang up. I have left two messages and no call back. I'm very dissatisfied with this transaction and ask that you cancel this policy immediately.
