Couldn't be happier!
We've had a Healthy Paws policy for our 9-year-old shih tzu since adopting her from a shelter two years ago. Given how little we knew about her health history and the severe neglect she had experienced before being rescued, we thought pet health insurance might be a good idea. It turned out to be a lifesaver. If it weren't for Healthy Paws, we would have faced veterinary bills in the high four digits as we got to the bottom of our dog's health issues. Healthy Paws paid all claims within a few days.
When I called to verify coverage for some of the more expensive procedures, our claims manager was both knowledgeable and compassionate. I can't remember the last time I cried on the phone with a claims manager at my own health insurer...but the sympathy and professionalism I received when talking to staff at Healthy Paws was just amazing. They're top of the line.
Within the last month we submitted a claim to Healthy Paws that included charges for a series of procedures -- some covered by our policy, some not covered. Within one business day, Healthy Paws had sorted through the many charges on the invoice and was processing a check for us. They even emailed a few days later just to see how our shih tzu was recovering. If Healthy Paws covered humans, I'd sign my family up tomorrow.

Healthy Paws Is A-ONE!
I have checked out 10 pet insurances and Healthy Paws stood out on top of my list, out of all I had checked out. They were even better after signing up. They are overall the friendliest, caring, and prompt pet insurance company around. They are prompt at getting back to you when they receive the claim forms , and the payouts are sent within a week. I am so grateful for having them for my little Spanky he was admitted for pancreatitis at my vet office though he wasn't getting better, so I ended up at an emergency Hospital while it took a couple days to recover, than before he was about to come home his blood sugar dropped, bottom line he ended up with a rare illness called an insulinoma which is a tumor in the pancreas that puts out too much insulin, Now they recommend surgery to remove it or else he will die within 7 months. What a shock it was to our family. We would have never been able to handle all the high costs of all the tests and surgery if it wasn't for Healthy Paws, they make it possible for us to take care of our Spanky. We can now have him around a lot longer. I would not have been able to do it without Healthy paws, and to top it off they truly care about your pet, they truly want to know how your pet is doing.I also love the fact that they encourage pet adoption. I highly recommend Healthy Paws!

I am very disgusted and upset with this insurance.
Whatever you do, be careful of the fine print. Heaven forbid your animal develop symptoms of a previous illness before the 180 day waiting period from the previous year's coverage. This insurance won't help you. They consider it pre-existing, even if you have had their insurance for years. I've spent hundreds of dollars insuring my cats, now they won't apply my claim to my deductible. So, I'm paying out of pocket for her treatment anyway. What's the point?

Buyer beware - not for routine healthcare
We had a $177 routine checkup and ear infection bill for our otherwise healthy 3 1/2 year old Golden, which we dutifully submitted. After having the vet send several years of doctor's notes to Embrace, we finally got "reimbursed." Out of the $177, only $26.40 were eligible and were applied towards the $500 annual deductible.
It turns out that only the ear infection antibiotic was covered. The heartworm test, heartworm preventative, and fecal test... all disallowed. So, this insurance is really for catastrophes and serious injuries, not for routine doctor visits. We hope that we don't ever have to use it.
We still want the insurance, but we were very disappointed that all the routine charges were not applied to the deductible.

Great Customer Service and Easy Filing
Our dog is a complete lemon - a wonderful, cuddly lemon, but a lemon all the same. When she was a puppy we realized that health issues would be Charlie's constant companion and, after her irritable bowel disease diagnosis, we started shopping for pet insurance. Many of the companies that our vet recommended (including pet insurance giant VPI) refused to take her saying that her IBD was a preexisting condition and they would not take the risk.
Pets Best not only took the risk, but has been incredible to deal with over the years. And deal with us they have! If health issues were dollar bills, I'd be a very wealthy person - urinary incontinence, Vitiligo, chronic ear infections and even a torn ACL that required surgery - Pets Best has been with us every step of the way.
They've treated us fairly as far as reimbursement is concerned and their customer service is outstanding! Not only is their portal easy to use, but their phone reps are the nicest customer service reps I have ever dealt with. They will literally help you with ANYTHING to do with your policy - I have never once been told it wasn't their job and they have often had to go above and beyond to assist me with complex questions regarding my dog and her health. These guys really know their stuff and are more than willing to help you along the way.
Yes - there are restrictions on what they will pay for (as with ALL insurance companies!), but if you read the contract before you buy you'll know whether or no

We are huge fans of Healthy Paws, and have sent a number of dog owner friends their way - and now they love Healthy Paws too :)
Healthy Paws has GREAT coverage, reasonable premiums, perfect communications, very responsive, and no hassles claims process. They give us a tremendous peace-of-mind knowing our little guy Chewie will get the best possible care without worrying about the vet bill.

Makes the difference between pursuing medical care
Dogs, especially puppies love to chew. Unfortunately, it doesn’t matter what it is. Two weeks ago I came home to find my $10 sunglasses on the floor. All that remained of the sunglasses was the wire eye frame and a ¼ of one side. Everything else was gone. After franticly searching the house looking for any of the missing parts I came to the conclusion that the parts (glass and all) were inside one of my two dogs. So, off to the vet we went. Both my Weimaraner (Emma) and Schnauzer-terrier mix (Molly) were x-rayed. I was surprised to find that it was Molly, and not the Weimaraner that had eaten the glasses.
Some parts passed naturally (to include some small glass shards); however, some of the metal bits wouldn’t leave her stomach. After 48 hours of watching and x-raying Molly to see if the metal bits were moving through the body, it was determined that they were not moving. So it was decided to attempt to retrieve the metal and glass bits endoscopically.
The vet informed me that some pet insurance companies do not cover "accidental" ingestions. That made me a bit nervous. When I called Healthy Paws to let them know what happened and to see if I was covered, the Healthy Paws representative asked “Is Molly doing Okay now?” I really got the sense that first and foremost; she was genuinely interested in how Molly was feeling. When I asked if I was covered she said "Absolutely".
The endoscope couldn’t retrieve the 75+ glass bits, screws and small metal parts.

Very happy with insurance
Our dog, Bailey, was vomiting and hardly eating anything. The vet performed many tests, did xrays and untrasounds, then finally exploratory surgery. It was determined that Bailey has Inflammatory Bowel Disease; she's fine now as long as we feed her the most expensive dog food in the store! Anyway, this was a very expensive experience and our claim was for over $3000. The representatives on the phone were knowledgeable and helpful. Our claim was received and processed promptly without any complications. Overall, it was a very easy, professional process and we are very happy with this insurance.
