I highly recommend this to everyone who has a pet!

I love my pet insurance. I love that they have the vet helpline, which has been so helpful when I’ve wanted to talk to a vet to see if I have an emergency on my hands. I’ve called the helpline a few times before taking my cat to the vet and they’ve been really helpful. I also love how much they cover, especially the flea medicine which can get expensive over time.

Pet Insurance Saved Me In An Emergency

I initially purchased pet insurance for my (then) young male cat since I was seeing and hearing about the costs to diagnose and treat urinary blockages. I spent 3 years paying the premiums but never had a dire emergency. That all changed in mid-January when I woke up to find a spool of thread had been unwound and strewn throughout the house. The first 24 hours were fine. My cat, Baker, ate and then, as cats often do, threw up some. Between 24 - 36 hours, he started slowing down, not eating and wanting seclusion. When he vomited a significant amount of brown, smelly intestinal contents, I knew that he was obstructed. I ran him to a 24 hour vet clinic at 10 PM. Baker was promptly seen and x-rays confirmed that he ate string (the bowel was starting to accordion up toward stomach). I put a large deposit down for the surgery and post care, knowing that I had pet insurance. Baker had surgery at 1 AM. They had to open his bowel in 3 places and recovered almost 3 yards of string. All in all, Baker did experience complications. He stayed in the hospital for 5 days and came home with a feeding tube. The final bill had me very nervous, but I am happy to say that Healthy Paws lived up to the policy! I had a $250 deductible and a 90% reimbursement policy. After my $250 deductible, I paid less than $750 out of my own pocket. The filing of the claim was quick and easy. After getting the doctor notes from the clinic, I filed the claim online. Less than a week later, my reimbursement was in my bank account. Without Healthy Paws insurance, I would definitely had struggled with the financial burden this emergency placed on me. The vet clinic (Hillside Veterinary Clinic in Dallas, TX) saved his life and Healthy Paws allowed me to make the tough financial decisions.

I love Pets Best.

I love Pets Best. To be honest, I am wary of Insurance companies, but PetsBest is as straightforward and quick as you can ever ask for. I am always happy with the service and know what to expect. That's all I can ask for! Thanks!

I won’t be without it with any pets

I always send in all paperwork vet gives me. The receipt with everything itemized. The vets office really doesn’t give you a diagnosis sheet. When I submit everything I am given I always get rejected and the reason is no diagnosis. I contact the vet and they say everything is on the paperwork. I have to usually file at least twice to get approved

It's nice to not worry about going to the vet.

Our dog, Layla, is a good, overall healthy pup, but she has had some random setbacks that have caused us to see some pretty hefty vet bills in the first few months of her life. First a UTI that she had trouble shaking, and then a tooth that grew in funny (so funny, in fact, that the vet had never seen anything like it). After that bill, I decided to ask my HR about the pet insurance they provided through Nationwide. It has been a wonderful experience ever since. We take her to get her heartworm medicine and flea medicine, and anytime something comes up (like an especially gunk filled eye), we don't worry about taking her because we know that just about everything is covered. The deductible was not hard to get to, because as I said, Layla isn't an ill dog, she's just got some random weird incidents that have caused us to raise an eyebrow at our vet bills, and while you do have to pay out of pocket at the vet, it's very easy to send in a claim right away and they reimburse you in about a month. My only complaint would be that when I filed my first claim or two, I had some trouble finding the claims paperwork to fill out. But now that I've done it a few times, it's fairly simple. I've never experienced any kind of problem where they didn't want to pay, and everything is always straightforward. Overall, I would definitely recommend it, especially if you find yourself going to the vet for the most random things. They do restrict on some things, like if they decide your dog has a pre-existing condition, they won't cover things under that. But if your dog is healthy for an extended period of time and doesn't have any incidents with what they've decided is pre-existing, I believe you can provide them with your dog's medical records again and ask for the pre-existing condition to be removed. We will be doing that sometime soon (the UTI got marked as a pre-existing condition for bladder problems) and I will know for sure. But for the past six months, it has been very nice not worrying about going to the vet.

Timely response and easy to use application.

When we got our puppy we wanted to ensure that if something did happen the cost would not be a factor in the treatment process. ASPCA has been wonderful to work with and the process is easy and payments are timely.

Awesome service and resource to have

Never thought to ever have insurance for my pup until our visit to the vet. Nationwide makes it simple to submit our claims for Phoebe's visit.
