Great coverage and speedy reimbursement
Our Dobie tore her CCL this year and had to have surgery. I was very impressed with Healthy Paws. We were able to get her a good surgeon and did not have to worry about the bill. They reimbursed 80% of it, with a short turnaround time, filing the claim was super easy and they also followed up to see how our girl was doing. They were recommended to me by a friend whose dog had to have surgery and I am glad I followed her advise and signed up our dog for Healthy Paws when she was a puppy. Highly recommend!

Easy to file claim
I have a 9 month old French Bulldog who has had pneumonia and the BOAS surgery. For the pneumonia he had an emergency pet visit and had to stay overnight. Nationwide covered the claim quickly. They also covered the BOAS surgery my dog had 3 weeks ago - again very quickly. Submitting a claim is really easy and you can do it straight from your phone. So far I have had one claim denied and it was because it was a pre-existing condition as it was something Vet had written in file first time I took him in for visit and policy wasn't in effect yet. The representative I spoke to gave me all the information as to why the claim was denied. Very patient and answered all my questions.

Great Service
The service has been great. My only suggestion is that your service representatives should be more informed. They was I contacted customer service shortly after the passing our my dog Abby to and asked about cancelling policy and to verify that they received the vet records they requested.
The person I spoke with informed me that I should keep Abby's policy in place while the claim was being processed. I called them 3 weeks later for a status on her claim and spoke to a different customer service representative.
She informed me that it was not required to keep Abby's policy open while the claim was being processed and closed it. She also said that any payments on the policy would be refunded and they would be in contact with my employer to inform them that my payroll deduction would be terminated for her policy.
I received a letter Nationwide soon after offering their condolences.

What exactly does Trupanion cover?
I bought my senior dog pet insurance through Trupanion knowing that his arthritis and allergies wouldn't be covered, because I didn't want to make major end-of-life decisions based on my budget. Two years and $1,500 of insurance later, and he has a suspected spinal stroke or disc rupture. A MRI costs almost $5k. This is the exact scenario I bought the insurance for...and Trupanion refuses to cover it based on the preexisting condition of arthritis. Now, I'm not a doctor but I do know that arthritis and a spinal injury are NOT the same thing. Over 2 years, they've covered some vet visits, but I've never actually made it past any of the deductibles. Their agents are friendly and they process claims sort of quickly, but that's not very helpful when they don't actually cover anything.

Great Service
I got to test this out on a leg surgery for my young dog and told myself that this would be a good test for Nationwide. I have had this insurance with other dogs since vpi and they payed exactly what they were suppose to. So needless to say they passed the test for major medical. Thank you

Can't get new policy.
I'm upset that they won't insure my new Puppy! I have a 3 yr. old who's been insured with them for over 2 yrs. They say I cant get a policy because I'm in the state of Washington. They said something about being at the limit of what they can accept!!! I have a puppy I need insured now so I'm forced to look for another company.

Helpful and Fair
The Trupanion staff was very helpful and it was easy to file a claim. My dog had a cracked tooth and needed surgery. I'm thankful our deductible was applied, and his condition was covered.

Nationwide Pet Insurance has been good so far for my new puppy!
I have been pleased so far with the ease of use in filing a claim for Louis' first vet appointment. I was sad to find out that a prescription for an antiseptic wipe for his wrinkles was not covered because it was an "abnormality." The wipes were a prescription to prevent issues down the road, so it didn't really make sense to me that this is considered an abnormality. However, other than that, I have been pleased so far. We have his next wellness check in 2 weeks.
