Shortly after we got Sadie, a Black Mouth Cur, and saw what an avid hunter she was (squirrel, deer - anything that moved) and how she would fly through the woods with total abandon, I thought it would be wise to get insurance for the inevitable accident she was sure to have. All was well for a few years, at which time my husband thought we should stop the insurance but I insisted we keep it. Thank heaven! Not too long after, Sadie completely tore her cranial cruciate ligament, leaving her very lame and requiring surgery. With the final bills well over $4,000, this would have been a very difficult amount to manage. We were quite pleased with the amount the insurance covered, and relative ease of submitting claims. Our veterinarians have always submitted the claims for us, something I highly recommend, so that all details and codes are correct, thus eliminating either a denied claim or the need to resubmit. I purchased pet insurance for my two cats when they were 4 months old. I don’t remember any type of “Pet Insurance Reviews.” I got quotes from 3 companies. Nationwide was not the carrier of my cats’ insurance policies at the time, but the original company was bought out by Nationwide several years ago. Even if I wanted to move to another insurer, I couldn’t. Like human policies, once the pet has pre exhisting conditions, the owner is unable to change policies because those pre exhisting conditions will no longer be covered by a new insurer.

Our decision to invest in a Nationwide policy soon after our puppy's arrival was perhaps the best decision we've ever made! We considered this option at our initial vet visit only after a seasoned tech suggested: " If you don't have health insurance, get it! Nationwide is the best. " We could not be more grateful, and frankly, even surprised by the last 18 months of generous, supportive, and hassle-free coverage. "Murphy" is perfect in every way, however he has had a myriad of chronic and serious health issues which would have been a significant financial hardship had it not been for Nationwide. Trupanion really never disappoints. They have always paid out at least a portion of our claims when an illness was unexpected. Sometimes they even pay a lot more than expected, which is always nice. While they do not pay for annual visits and checkups, they do pay when it matters, which is when you are not prepared to dish out hundreds of bucks. Really great company and really great customer service.

My dog kept vomiting for over an hour. I contacted the 24/7 helpline and was advised to take him to the after hours emergency vet. They did x-rays and ended up giving him fluids and an anti-nausea injection. I filed my claim the next day and received a check in the mail in less than a week. I was amazed at how easy and efficient the process was - especially since I just recently started my policy. I did a lot of research before deciding on which pet insurance to get and I am so happy that I picked Pets Best. I have since referred a few friends and they have also had a great experience.
