Best pet coverage I have found
With my previous cat (who died in 1993) I had tried other pet insurance companies, but I always had to pay a co-pay and they didn't cover many of the bills I had submitted for payment. I signed up with ASPCA Pet Insurance in 2006 and am extremely glad that I did. Last year I took my cat to a "cat" groomer that I thought would be a good place to go (I checked on the internet and it had several stars as a rating. I had taken my cat to the groomer in May and by Memorial Day weekend (a couple of weeks later), my cat had become very ill (he was falling down, plus his third eyelid was showing in one eye). This had happened on Sunday so, of course, the pet hospital where my cat's vet was was closed. Fortunately, there is a Pet Emergency center near where I live, so I took my cat there and was told he had "Horner's Syndrome" (the symptoms can last for 6-8 weeks), which they did. Over the time that my cat was ill, his medical bills came to over $1,500.00 and ASPCA Pet Insurance paid over $800.00 of that.

10/10 Absolutely amazing company and people.
My husband and I desperately wanted to get a puppy so we called around, looked online and finally found one. We went to pick her up and fell instantly in love with her. She was a Chug (pug x chihuahua) and the cutest little girl ever! About 2 days after we got her home I brought her to the vet thinking that she might have ear mites. Turned out to be nothing but the vet that we went to see set us up with a trial package for puppy insurance and sent us on our way. About 5 days later Lelo started with vomiting and diarrhea and we took her back to the vet where she was diagnosed with Parvo. The vet told me that it is a very expensive treatment but if we went ahead with treatment she would have an 80% chance of living. So, of course we went ahead with it. Lelo was in the hospital for 7 days. We went in to visit her on a Wednesday. Our vet bill had become outrageous and we couldn't afford to go on any longer with treatment. We went in to say goodbye to her and through tears I said to her "I'm sorry baby, I wish you could tell me what to do... If you want to keep fighting we will." It's the hardest decision to make. After saying "goodbye" we were speaking with the vet and as we were, Lelo stopped breathing. She made the decision for us. Our vet bill by the end of it all was at $7,188.22 and being a student, that's a pretty scary number. PetSecure paid $5000.00. For anyone that is wondering whether or not pet insurance is worth it, I hope this story helps. Although Lelo didn't live I wouldn't have been able to give her a fighting chance without it. Thank you so much PetSecure!

They do exactly as they say!
I have two dogs. One needed patella surgery 2x which is considered congenital. Embrace paid handsomely, just as it stated in the policy. There was no hesitation and no problems. They just paid all claims. Amazing, when you hear so much about rip off companies--this company is great! I will always use them if I have pets. My other dog is healthy but you never know. What if I didn't have this coverage, I would be in so much debt. I recommend Embrace to anyone who loves their pups, cats, etc. There is no choice for me. And their customer service is fantastic-everyone is so polite, and helpful-it's like they all have stock in the company. I wish every company was run like this one.

Assessment still in progress
I have never had pet insurance before, but on the advice of friends, I decided to give it a try. I purchased Pets Best insurance (the basic plan) for my six rescue dogs. I submitted my first claim after one of my dogs had a sudden illness that was resolved after treatment over a two week period. After submitting my claim, I called Pets Best to find out whether everything was in order and was told that it was, that Pets Best would be contacting my veterinarian for medical records on my dog. Roughly two weeks later, I received an email that my claim had been processed and that I would receive a letter in 7-10 days with any eligible payment. I went online to find out what the what the disposition of my claim was and found that my claim had been declined. When I called it turns out that Pets Best declined my claim because the scanned credit card receipt was covering the Vet hospital name on the invoice(even though the name was on other pages). When I spoke to the customer service agent, she said that I would have to resubmit the claim. She also said that I would need to send my dog's veterinary record for one year. I said I had been told that they were contacting my vet and I asked why they did not tell me about the receipt and the medical record but merely declined my claim. She said they did not always have to have the vet record and they wanted to cut down on paperwork.
I have resubmitted the claim, now a new claim since the first was denied. So, I am still waiting to find out whether I will keep Pets Best.
My comment: It would have required very little for them to contact me, especially after I asked, and allow me to rescan the invoice without the credit card receipt on it and to inform me that I needed to send the vet record.
So, at this point my assessment is poor. I will wait to make a final decision on continuing with Pets Best based on whether they pay my legitimate claim and whether there is further delay or prevarication regarding it.

SO WORTH IT!!
We have two Great Dane companions, a breed known for having health issues. Knock on wood for two years we haven't needed our policy, but when our deaf boy began struggling with recurring pneumonia, Embrace has done everything to be helpful and responsive. He's still being treated, but we've already recouped all of what we've paid in premiums for both dogs. Plus, they always ask how he's doing in our email correspondence. They care and they work for you!

I would recommend Pets Best
As a veterinarian, I am asked to pick an insurance company to recommend. I liked the 80%/20% structure, the accident only option, and the fact that the person who designed the insurance had a lot of previous experience starting VPI. I took a policy out on my own very young border collie for several reasons. I wanted to see how fast they processed claims and I wanted to find out if I would be a satisfied customer.
This dog came from a shelter with a mass on the top of the head. It was removed at the time of her spay, submitted for histopathology, and found to be benign. We also were told we got clean margines (meaning - no tumor extended below the surgical site - we got it all).
I took out the policy. Then, 3 months later, TWO tumors developed at the same site. I was very curious to see if they would pay on this. I submitted the bill, and they paid the 80% (we did document the first surgery results - that a clean margin had been obtained etc.)
So - I do like Pets Best. The accident only policy is very affordable for many clients and covers many devastating events. I advise a more complete plan, but even the accident only will give most clients peace of mind.

An insurance company that actually cares!
I wasn't so sure I wanted the free trial that was offered by my vet for my puppy on her first visit after picking her up from the breeder. Since it was free and my vet insisted that the company was good and that I should really think about pet insurance as a way to help budget for vet costs, I decided it couldn't hurt to look into it. Sure enough, I wound up needing to make a claim when she got her paw caught up in something on our farm and came back lame and needing some stitches. It was a pretty minor problem but she needed to have an anesthetic to get the stitches, and with bloodwork and hospitalization fees the bill was over $500 dollars. I had to call them to figure out how to make a claim and they were helpful on the phone and the money came pretty quickly in the mail also. I decided that it was probably a good idea to continue to pay monthly for the coverage too, so now my goofy border collie can get into trouble and I don't have to worry as much. I couldn't believe that they were so good about the claim even though I hadn't actually ever paid for anything. I will be telling my friends for sure, and I couldn't thank my vet enough!

No customer service
I had the Wellness Plus Plan for my puppy. The only difference between the Wellness Plus and Wellness Plan is that the Wellness Plus Plan includes the cost of neutering. My puppy was neutered in the first year of cover and the vet's invoice was sent to AKC and was duly settled by them. The next year I received my renewal documents and paid the premium quoted. What I didn't realize, until the subsequent renewal, was that AKC had not downgraded my policy to the Wellness Plan since my puppy had now been neutered, they were still charging me for the Wellness Plus Plan which was no longer appropriate.
When I queried this with AKC they said I had to notify them in writing that my dog had been neutered. I told them that not only did they have written confirmation from the vet, but that they had also settled the claim and were therefore well aware my dog had been neutered.
AKC refused to refund the additional premium and suffice to say I immediately cancelled my policy. AKC is an arrogant and inflexible company, offering no customer service.
I am now with a company who value and respect their customers.
Also AKC constantly paid only a portion of my claim, as they considered the bills to be 'unreasonable'. I can't help that I live in an expensive area and in fact when you get a quote you have to enter your zip code and I'm sure your premium is adjusted accordingly. They should pay me back the full cost of my dog's care, as that is how much it costs me to provide care for him in my area.

Wonderful Company
We've had PetsBest for 1 year now for our 3 dogs (2 Greyhounds and a senior Golden) and have been extremely pleased. Even with these tough economic times, our policy only increased in cost a little this year.
PetsBest was one of the few companies that would even insure our senior dog, and the cost is only a little more than for our young boys. PetsBest also covers acupuncture/holistic care, should you be interested in an alternative approach to pet health care.
All claims were paid promptly, with no hassles, and the customer service has been outstanding! I highly recommend this company.
