this company is a total ripoff and a complete waste of time! My yorkie was diagnosed with hip dysplasia after obtaining insurance, and it was ruled preexisting. I HAD EVEN BOUGHT THE EXTRA COVERAGE FOR HIP DYSPLASIA. This company kicks ya when your down and now i am even more broke than without the insurance. I am going to have to put my dog up for adoption. Thanks Trupanion.

Within 2 weeks - Made a claim!
On March 8th, 2010, my 3 month old puppy Jewel was rushed to emergency. An hour earlier, we had taken her to the front of our condo to get some fresh air. She was already in the habit of picking things up off the ground all the time, but most of the time she spit it out. Once the vet examined her, they determined she had swallowed a cigarette butt and now had nicotine poisoning. I was devastated and extremely worried if she was going to make it and how much this vet bill was going to be affecting my wallet!!
The next day, I am happy to say, Jewel recovered and was looking much better. I paid for the bill ($853.10) and the vet office sent in my claim.
The next day I received an email confirming that my claim was received. I was very impressed. It’s nice to know that when you send something in, that the company acknowledges they have it, so you’re not waiting and wondering. I was even more impressed that on March 10th (TWO DAYS AFTER THE INCIDENT!!!!), I received yet another email with an outline of the claim and what was covered. EVERYTHING (not including the exam) up to 90%!! I was amazed. It was only a few weeks before that I had set up the insurance and I already witnessed the exceptional customer service this company provides. No additional questions or hassle!! My puppy was back at home feeling better and my wallet wasn’t feeling as empty as I expected.
Thanks Trupanion!! I’ve already recommended you to many of my friends and I am sure you will have many many many more customers coming your way!!!

A sea of red tape
We decided on Pets Beast after a recommendation by our vet. Our policy was $55 a month for our 5 year old chocolate Labrador, Hershey. Hershey had previously tore his CCL and we had it fixed to the tune of $4k and we were worried he would tear this other one. Sure enough, 1 year later he did. We had the insurance for a year also and they did cover his inital diagnostic test, but did not cover the CCL surgery. Why? Because they had paid for the diagnostic, anything relating to that condition is now "pre-existing". Shop before you buy.

I should have chosen Kroger PI instead
After comparison shopping online for weeks I ended up choosing ASPCA for my doggie & kitty, however after I signed on with them I heard about Kroger's plan that covered more & would have cost less. ASPCA PI did not cover any expenses for Sweetpea's seizures (which was the bulk of expenses). The plan has not saved me any money (I actually ended up paying more for the plan than I would have out of pocket). I will not renew with ASPCA & will check out the Kroger insurance plan next time.

Simply the best!
I cannot tell you how pleased we have been as a family. Our little "girl" has had two major surgeries in less than three months and she is only a 14 months old. Trupanion has been there for us each time to help and have been incredibly fast in their responses to questions or concerns. The last thing I want to state is they have the best policy for your pet on the planet, you cannot go wrong with them.Your pet and your family will thank you!

AKC Pet Healthcare Plan vs. Embrace
After having the AKC Pet Healthcare plan on my four Bulldogs for two years I recently switched to Embrace. I was frustrated about the length of time it took AKC to process claims and the fact that they considered just about everything genetic and therefore denied the claim. In addition, for two years I tried to get them to consider giving a multi-pet discount and all I was told was that it was something they were considering. They still don't offer it...
Knowing that Bulldogs are prone to a lot of genetic disorders, I decided to look into other Pet Insurance Plans. That's when I realized that the AKC Pet Healthcare Plan is one of the WORST rated pet insurance companies out there. I chose Embrace because they are one of the top rated companies and learned there's a reason for that. Their level of customer service is superior! During a recent wellness check (on a Saturday) my vet found a small mammary tumor on one of my girls. She had surgery that day and spent the night in the hospital. I submited my claims to Embrace on Monday and was shocked to find the money direct deposited into my account on Friday (less my $200 annual deductible and 10% co-pay. I was provided status every step of the way. I even recieved a person email from one of the co-founders a week later verifying that I received my payment and if for some reason I hadn't she wanted me to contact her personally. It just doesn't get any better than that.
Embrace may cost a little more but you get something in return - COVERAGE and personal service.
Bottom line is DO YOUR HOMEWORK before you buy pet insurance. There's a lot of information out there. I wish I had done my research instead of just signing up with AKC Pet Healthcare because it was recommended by AKC when I received my registration papers. Having the AKC seal of approval in this case is very disappointing.
