Sound financial decision
I've historically questioned the reasonableness of paying the annual pet insurance premiums on my two dogs, as the generic deductible seemed high and wellness coverage was questionable. However, when my lab was diagnosed with a torn ACL earlier this year and the estimated bill approached $2,800, I was glad to have the insurance in place. ASPCA did a good job of walking me through the process, and payment arrived within two weeks of the surgery. Coverage was very reasonable and the overall process was fairly painless. My dog received the full care she required, and the coverage essentially paid for the prior five years of premiums. I’m concerned about the ‘pre-existing condition’ clause affecting future issues, but I was glad to have the insurance in place as it certainly eased the financial burden of an otherwise difficult process. I intend do maintain both policies going forward if only for the peace of mind they provide.

ASPCA Health Insurance was a good choice for us
We adopted our 9 pound maltipoo, Duke, last year and signed on with ASPCS insurance after exhaustive research with numerous companies. At the end of the day, we felt good supporting the ASPCS organization and hoped that the trust we had in the brand name would carry over to their pet insurance.
Lucky for us, we made the right decision. Our Duke had a couple of typical "puppy scrapes" that first year - eating acorns in the yard once which sent him to the vet for IV fluids and another time after ingesting fertilizer off a neighbors lawn. Both times our little guy got really sick and it was nice to have the peace of mind that we had insurance to off set the huge costs involved in treatment.
Initially, we bought our policy for the well-visit coverage. While that offered a reimbursement towards neutering and some vaccines, we felt he best part of the covereage is for illness. When we renewed our second year, we ditched the wellness plan and signed on for pre-existing illness coverage instead.
In the long run - it is reasonable and the ASPCA folks make it really easy! Our claims were processed quickly and fairly. Also- they are not big on "hard sales"- I felt that they cared about my pet as much as I did! hanks ASPCA!

Sidney, Happy & Healthy today, Thanks ASPCA
I have a long haired dachshound, namded Sidney. I adopted him at a year old. He was an abused dog. Recently, Sidney & I went to my moms to visit and shop. When we left, we pick up baskets, as he gets into them, and anything else he may get into. Any one who has a Dachsie, knows what I mean when I say they are curious & gets into trouble when possible. My mom had left a bowl of cough drops (wrapped) in a dish by her chair. When we got home Sidney was laying on the floor, the dish of cough drops were gone, wrappers and all. His belly looked bloated and he was breathing hard and layed with out greeting us. He layed with his head in his water bowl, I called aspca poison center for help. I didnt know what I should do, as I dont know any vets in my moms area. Even tho the phone call cost 65.00, it was worth the information I received. They can sometimes solve your crisis over the phone, but in this case I was directed to get him to Er. as I did. They had to pump his stomach, and give him IV's and x-rays. I sent the claim in, and I received a large part of the amount paid and a call from the insuranace to ask how Sidney was feeling. I sure made the right decision 3 years ago to get pet insurance with aspca. I will have aspca pet insurance on every pet I have in the future. The claims and payment are handled with much care. Thank you, ASpca for your help with payment & helping me to keep Sidney well.

Why is it so expensive?
I've had AKC and ASPCA pet insurances for both of my dogs. What I find absolutely amazing is that I pay less for the insurance for my horse than for either of my dogs and my horse has both mortality insurance and health insurance. Something is very wrong with this picture. I've already sent in a negative review on my ASPCA insurance (the current policy for both dogs). I was just throwing this question out there for general info/response.

Peace of Mind
Having had a number of dogs in the past, I knew how quickly vet bills can add up. So when we got our new baby English Bull Dog - Higgins, I signed up for insurance right away. The level insurance we chose helped cover some routine items right away. Higgins has had a few issues, lyme disease, ear infections and recently bee stings to his face : ( Our claims were always processed in a timely fashion. I would certainly recommend anyone with a pet to look into pet insurance. It helps when the additional costs are incurred unexpectedly.

Peace of Mind
As the pet parent to two dogs and two cats, I have had my share of veterinary expenses. All my animals are rescues so they didn't come with any health guarantees. I easily spend several thousand dollars a year at the vets. Their healthcare is not something I would ever consider scrimping on, so I researched pet health insurance. Just like people insurance, most pet policies have deductibles and clauses regarding pre-existing conditions and reasonable and customary charges. You need to do your homework. I have the premiums charged to my credit card monthly and consider it like a forced savings for veterinary expenses. I chose the ASPCA carrier since a portion of each premium goes to help homeless animals. The claims submissions is relatively easy and the processing is quite timely. Financially, I would be satisfied if I could recoup the cost of the premiums with the claims I submit. Fortunately, my pets are fairly young and in good health, so this hasn't happened yet. I consider the premiums as the cost of future peace of mind. Just like us, the older they get, the more medical intervention our pets require. Overall, I am very satisfied with the ASPCA pet health insurance and would recommend it to someone who wants to insure his/her pet(s).
