ASPCA to the rescue!
On a routine visit to my vet with Maine Coons, Hyacinthe and Daphnis, in December 2009, I idly picked up ASPCA's Pet Insurance brochure. On studying it at home (having previously looked into two other plans and found them wanting), I liked this one and immediately insured my boys. In June 2010, on a vet visit with Hyacinthe, the routine weigh check showed that he had lost over one pound since December. Testing indicated hyperthyroidism. My choice for treatment was "pills" --twice a day and a major battle each time--or very expensive iodine 131 irradiation. Although my vet assured me that, over the balance of my 11-year old's expected life, irradiation would prove to be no more expensive than medication and follow-up testing, the up-front cost would be significant. Not knowing whether insurance would even cover it, I opted for irradiation. But ASPCA came through with flying colors. Now, Hyacinthe is like a new cat! He's gaining weight, his coat is silky, his eyes bright, and he's returned to play-chasing with his brother, Daphnis. THANKS ASPCA INSURANCE and my great good luck in picking up that brochure just when I did.

Haven't had a bad experience yet...
I have had Embrace insurance for almost 2 years now and was pleasantly surprised with the ease of submitting a claim and the quickness with the response. If I do have a question regarding my claim I receive a response in my e-mail within hours. They are VERY helpful and even have helped me to save money on the monthly premium. The reimbursements I received have always been fair and I really have no complaints. I do wish I chose the medication option when I purchased the policy because if you don't that is not covered.

Fast, Easy, and Economical
I purchased insurance for our Daschund-Chihuahua mix, Dobby, when he was just a puppy. We had lost our beloved Lab, Sunny, during a surgery for tumor removal from around his liver. Because the surgery was so expensive, not only did we have to deal with the loss of our pet, but paying the bill and not having our dog was very tough. Not wanting to go through that again, we decided to go with insurance. I did alot of research and liked the way Pets Best handled their claims and the monthly payment via deduction from my checking account made it easy and affordable. In the past 2.5 years I have had several wellness claims and one emergency vet service claim, all of them were quickly reviewed and paid - I am amazed. I wish dealing with our health insurance for the human members of my family was as good. Also, I contacted Pets Best via telephone with questions regarding coverage - always received prompt, friendly, and professional service. I have and do highly recommend Pets Best.

I feel secure having Embrace insurance
After our 4 year old goldendoodle was diagnosed with lymphoma, we as human medical professionals then realized how advanced canine treatments can be. We had no pet insurance then but wanted to do everything possible for him. After few months our pet passed away despite the chemos, transfusions and excellent care. We were very sad but was determined to get pet insurance for our next dog. I did a lot of reserach on pet insurance then and Embrace was the best deal and coverage I found. Our new puppy arrived 2 months later and he's healthy so far, needing insurnace coverage for hip dislocation he suffered while running on wet grass(no preexisting condition) and the subsequent medical complication from his sling-related injuries. All the claims were processed properly and checks issued appropriately. I am very impressed. If Embrace Insurance can run human insuranc companies I am sure the world would be a better place.

Might not be worth it
My cat's claim was denied because his file said he'd vomited a couple times in the past. What animal doesn't vomit at some point in 9 years? That's hardly the same thing as vomiting repeatedly for days in a row, requiring x rays, multiple blood tests, and medications. Unless you insure your healthy pet at birth, it might not be worth it. Your dog was hit by a car and broke his leg? Well, it says here that 5 years ago he tore a dew claw so that leg's not covered. Your dog has pleurisy? Well, she was panting during an exam 10 years ago so that's not covered. She obviously had lung issues then. Cat's developed diabetes? Well, he was apparently a bit overweight at one point so we aren't going to cover that. Any animal that hasn't had a major illness can still be construed as having pre-existing symptoms for just about everything at some point.
I'm saying yes for recommending this company to other pet owners, but it's very conditional. Get the insurance at your puppy/kitten's first exam. Maybe then they'd actually be covered.

Positives and Negatives
The positives are that they have excellent customer service and are much better than VPI. The reimbursement by reasonable and customary is much better than a set fee.
Negatives: I signed my dog up for insurance the day we picked him up from the breeder. Unfortunately the breeder was giving him his immunizations and he wasn't due to go to the vet for 3 weeks. When he was at his first appointment, he had a little diarrhea and was diagnosed with colitis. Which is now considered a pre-existing condition DESPITE the fact that it was after the waiting period. Puppies get diarrhea from time to time, I'm just afraid all GI related diseases will be excluded...
The claims process took FOREVER, I think it was 16 or 17 business days (a MONTH to get a check) after filling my claim, after countless phone calls. They did end up covering the expenses of a subsequent ER visit. However, there was a great deal of anxiety over if it would be considered pre-existing. I had to fight the vet to take my dog home sooner because I was afraid I couldn't afford the visit. I bought the policy early to avoid they anxiety of pre-existing conditions and that certainly was NOT the case...

I leave a supply of claim sheets with my vet's office and just have them complete and fax when I pay for the visit. The form is quick and easy and I get an email within a day or two confirming reciept!

True dedication to animals
I used to have a health plan w/ VPI, but b/c of financial difficulties decided to cancel it. My dog was still young enough (about 5). But after some years I thought it would be best to get coverage for him again since he had just turned 8. So I called VPI again and to my surprise and disapointment, VPI and some others I contacted turned me down b/c of his age! As if 8 was old. So I found ASPCA and was pleased and grateful that they accepted us. It was a good thing too, b/c 6 mos later my Billy started to bleed internally and after many tests even though the cause was not found, a solution to make it stop was. He is doing better now and thanks to the ASPCA plan I am not in the poor house. each claim I had to put in was at least $150. I even had a claim for $579 and received $402 for it. Even though it's not a 100% return (please let me know if there is such a plan) I am sure glad I wasn't alone in these difficult times! Thanks, ASPCA, for your loyalty and dedication to animals!
Sincerely,
Adriana
