Having watched friends spend lots of money on pet emergencies, I promised myself that if I ever got a dog, I would also get dog insurance. I just didn't expect to need it so fast! Zoey, our lab mix, was attacked & bit by another dog when she was 4 months old. The entire ordeal lasted over a month & included several rounds of antibiotics, surgery to debride the wound along with drainage tubes (EEEW) and that well-loved e-collar for 3 weeks.
My total cost was $956. trupanion covered 90% of the costs, less the exam fees, less the laser therapy (which they are considering covering in the future since it is so commonly used these days)and less the deductible of $250.
I sent all of the paperwork into them on August 18th and had checks for $524 on August 24th. I also heard from the local trupanion representative throughout.
The claims process was super simple, I just faxed the forms in and had email responses immediately.
I really wish they covered the laser therapy and the follow up exam fees (luckily my vet saw my dog several times without charging me at all), and I wish I had gone with no deductible, but even so, having the coverage paid for itself, the filing process was painless and trupanion was super fast responding & reimbursing.

INCREDIBLE INSURANCE
This is the first time i've dealt with pet insurance and Pet's Best was recommended to me from a vet hospital. Over the course of almost 2 years, have had one young dog who had ortho surgery and now just recently my other dog had a freak accident which required emergency surgery/ICU stay for 6 days, blood transfusion and 24 hour care at specialty hospital.
I can't believe how quick and easy Pets Best has paid out on both claims. I would now recommend for anyone having a dog who runs off leash in brush etc to sign up for the maximum plan with 14,000 limit. We only had the 7,000 limit.
Company rep's are always available and honest about policies and filing paperwork with direct deposit on reimbursements, makes this ten times easier than human insurance. All reimbursed within 8-10 days, incredible!

Good and Bad
I bought Pets Best Insurance (regular and wellcare) shortly after purchasing a puppy that turned out to be loaded with problems like tapeworm, bacterial infection and giardia. It took months to clean him up so that he is now happy and healthy at 9 months. After several claims, I found that the hundreds of dollars I spent at the vet was not reimbursable! I've tried to cancel the well care and learned that I can't until I have it for a year! Maybe someday the regular portion of the policy will pay for something....but I hope I never need it. I will be changing companies when my year is up!

Highly Recommend
I rescued a senior dog and thought it might be best if I took out some kind of insurance on her because of her age and unknown medical history. Shortly afterwards, the vet found some tumors on her stomach which had to be removed. Pet's Best paid their portion without a hitch. The basic wellness package is great, also. The claims process is painless and the response is amazingly fast. I usually have a check within two weeks. I recommend them to all my friends and they have great things to say, as well.

Pete and Karma
My dog Pete was diagnosed with cancer a year ago and just died in June 2011. My other dog Karma was dignosed with cancer in July 2011. Trupanion has been wonderful in expediting my claims very quickly. Also, they have been very supportive when they called to see how Karma was doing. I am very happy with Trupanion.Thank you

Pets Best Came Through For Me!
I signed my puppy, Malcolm, up for Pets Best and added the Wellness plan as well. He's now 4 months old and I submitted my first claim (for his neuter & a shot). My claim was processed very quickly and I was reimbursed directly to my checking account. My only complaint is that I had to resubmit my claim twice, but it's not entirely the fault of the company. I didn't understand that because there was a medication listed on my bill that was submitted (which was for pain after his neuter) that they were looking for a diagnosis on the claim form as well as the neuter and bordatella shot. I called customer service and they kindly explained it to me and we got it all sorted out. The customer service rep was very nice and professional & even after having to submit it twice it still took less than a week for me to be reimbursed. I would definitely recommend Pets Best to my friends and family.
