Pet Insurance Recommended
This is my first claim submitted to Trupanion and I'm very pleased with the result. Submitting the claim was easy and within 10 days I received an email stating the claim had been processed with a detailed breakdown of the payment to be processed.

never enough reimbursement to satisy
Every time we have a big bill from our Vet, it turns out hardly any of it is covered by Embrace. Very frustrating to say the least. Its all in the exact wording by the Vet himself. If there is even the tiniest chance there could be some association with anything pre-existing, or if a physical exam for say dermatitis also included some regular wellness exam procedure... then POOF- there again we have lost our chances of getting a deduction! This has been going on for over a year now! Very very very frustrating. The dog has had like 4 exams for varying problems and every time Embrace manages to weasel out of paying, because it looks like a wellness exam or some fluke possible thing from a "possible" tick (which there wasnt even any proof of...) on and on and on.... I am glad others have had some good luck, but definitely not us.

Dishonest! 100% Premium Increase.
I live in California. My dog Luna is an American Bulldog and she has been insured with Trupanion since she was 5 months old. Last month I submitted the first claim since she’s been insured.Weeks later, i got the rate increase e-mail…I went from $49 to $95!!!
They say it's not based on claims you file, and their website and advertising says they only increase rates due to inflation or increase in veterinary costs. There is NO way inflation and veterinary costs were 100% - 400% like other customers have reported.
NOW we find out that they couldn't increase rates before because the Deparment of Insurance wouldn't allow it.
So, the bottom line is that they didn’t have enough policies in the US to increase their prices, so they kept their rates really low to get customers to sign up until they had enough claims information for the DOI to approve the increase.
That is classic bait and switch deceitful business practice, and shame on them for not being clear and disclosing this information to customers from the beginning so we could make an informed decision.
They were planning to make astronomical increases to the premiums but they kept promising low rates with minimal inflation increases in the meantime.
I can afford $100 a month for my dog. There is no price for me when it comes to her health. The problem for me and what makes me so upset here is the dishonest business practice that was used.
Many people like me can afford the increase, but there are others

MUST HAVE!!!
THE BEST, I KID YOU NOT, THE BEST THING I HAVE EVER DONE AS A PET OWNER IS GET EMBRACE INSURANCE. I have owned dogs all my life and they can always come up with some unexpected health issues, no matter what the age or type of dog. Since I have had Embrace, they have covered a rough onslaught of medical conditions that neither of my rescue dogs were ever forseen to have- and Embrace did it without ever objecting, making my life difficult, or capping benefits. The payments are prompt and the people there are delightful to deal with- they take a personal interest in your dog and they always follow-through on being sure you received your money. My one dog, only 1 1/2 years old, recently went through approximately $15,000 in medical expenses for an unknown illness that was causing her to waste away. Because of Embrace, we were able to pursue all the treatments she needed and she is now recovering, happy and healthy again. In addition, the specialists found two conditions that we can now do preventative treatment for so they never become a large issue later in life. This on top of the more than $10,000 they have put out on my other dog who needed extensive oral work and ended up with a neurological disorder, another young dog. I am so fortunate to have spent the time researching these pet insurance companies. Embrace is the one and only who will cover you for everything, do it completely and do it with a smile. Unbelievable blessing for those of us who love our furry famil

Disappointed
The claim was processed in a timely manner, however, I was disappointed in the amount of reimbursement, only $25 of a $135 billing. This was not the first claim where I have had this experience, so I cancelled the insurance policy.

Always Found Ways to Avoid Paying Claims
I filed several claims with Trupanion. 1st was emergency for diarrhea and vomiting. They didn't pay because fecal test was negative for giadia and giardia was mentioned as possible cause($410.00). 2nd was for a few blood tests and Vet. visit to rule out hypothyroidism ($327.00). Again, they paid nothing. 3rd was for retained deciduous teeth which they said was covered prior to the Vet. visit and surgery ($1300.00). After I sent in the claim, they said it wouldn't be covered because it was a pre-existing condition even though I got the puppy at 10 weeks old with all the baby teeth in their proper positions.
After calling Trupanion to discuss these problems, all I received was a rehash of the reasons why they would not pay any of the claims.
They only thing that was done correctly was the refund for a partial month's payment after cancelling the policy and switching to Purina Care. I have had absolutely no problems with Purina Care.

Healthy Paws equals peace of mind!
I’ve had Healthy Paws for over a year and thankfully, haven’t had to use them until now. Our 4 year old Lab mix had some constant licking/itching problems for about a week. Let’s just say it was on the south bound end of a north bound dog. Before I took him to the vet, printed out my pre-populated claim form (thanks for that Healthy Paws - I can never remember my policy numbers!). It was nothing serious and the vet just gave us some topical meds for the temporary condition. My vet was pleasantly surprised at how simple their task was in filling out their portion of the claim form. The day after I faxed in the claim form I got an email telling me the claim was in process. Two days later I got a call from one of their customer care reps with an explanation of my claim payment (there was none since the amount covered did not meet the $50 annual deductible, but I knew that when I filed it). Not only were they concerned about our dog that went to the vet, they also inquired how our other dogs were doing!! So, like that credit card commercial: cost of taking family out to dinner once a month = $80. Using part of that money on Healthy Paws to cover our 2 dogs for our peace of mind = priceless!!

Prescription Coverage
I was very pleased with the initial communication with the Embrace staff and after Ellie's first accident. It seems that prescription coverage is an additional cost even if there is an emergency.
My dog doesn't require daily prescription drugs however she was bitten by another dog which required stitches and an antibiotic for wound care at the cost of 537.00. The cost for the drug for this claim was not covered. I am still very unhappy about that incident. I have also been comparing other companies and their policies before I renew with Embrace for the following year. Not sure I would recommend Embrace to other pet owners.
