A Waste of Money

After 10 years without claims, insuring two dogs at a time, and not always the same two (they come and go), I finally submitted a claim for $240. After the $100 deductible, I called about the "co-insurance" of 20% ($48.00). What's the deductible for then! I get $92.00. They get $148! I paid about $12,000 in premiums over the ten years, and the only other accident claim I submitted 5 yr. ago (dog broke a tooth trying to chase a squirrel under the fence) they refused to pay b/c it wasn't "on the list of perils". Don't bother with insurance! If you have more than one dog, just self-insure. It will be cheaper in the long run, by a lot! I give them a "2" b/c at least they paid something, but I cancelled the policies, and I will self-insure from here on in.

Stormy heathcare

My cat, Stormy, is generally heathly but getting a little older. She's had some dental and skin problems but nothing dramatic. I am reassured having pet insurance for her - just in case. My other cat, Thunder, died of IBS a couple years ago. It came on rather suddenly and he was sick for several months before he died. If I didn't have ASPCA pet insurance, I would have had to get a second job to pay his vet bills. ASPCA is a respected company and the pet insurance is good quality and priced right. Thanks.

AKC is the best... have had others.

I am a big fan of pet insurance. We have had AKC for both of our dogs for six years. My company offered VPI at a discount so I switched one of our dogs to VPI to try it.In short, from VPI, the amount I spent on insurance would have easily covered my output for the dog bills. Bottom line, AKC has paid nearly every claim with little to no hassle. I am so sorry I switched. I would recommend AKC to everyone.

Relatively Painless Claim

My cat, Buttercup, was stung by a scorpion, and she had a frightening neurological reaction to it. Her head was twitching, her pupils were big as saucers, and within a short period of time she lost the ability to walk. I rushed her to an emergency clinic (of course, the sting occurred after hours) where the treatment was extremely expensive. It seems that a reaction to a scorpion sting is a very unusual occurrence for a cat, either because most cats are immuned to scorpion venom (as many believe) or because they are usually quick enough to avoid stings (my vet's hypothesis). The emergency clinic vet was concerned that Buttercup's reactions were severe enough that she wouldn't make it through the night without proper treatment, but it was difficult to find anyone with the experience to know how to treat her. Antivenom is apparently not available, at least not for pets. After some searching, a common dog treatment was found and used on Buttercup and she responded to it. It still took her several days to recover enough to be able to walk more than a few steps at a time, but she was fully recovered after a couple of weeks.Needless to say, all of this required a lot of expensive treatment, even after I was able to check Buttercup out of the emergency clinic and take her to my usual vet. She required monitored care for several days. I kept all the receipts from all her treatments and medicines, and I received care notes from the vets who cared for her. Completing the cla

Great Initial Response

This is my first experience with Embrace and so far it has been exactly what was promised. The claims process has been easy and reimbursement timely. I am very satisfied.

Waste of time and money!

The insurer does a disservice to the AKC name. They work really hard at one thing . . . denying your claim. I recently submitted a claim for a visit to the vet resulting from my dog ingesting a foreign object that irritated and lacerated his esophagus/larynx. Luckily he passed the object. However, he was subsequently left with an irritated throat and cough. The claim was denied because the policy does cover "coughs" . . . . Umm, that was the result of the injury, not the symptom! Their response was to ask whether or not I filed a claim for reconsideration as if that is standard operating procedure. As this is the second time I've been forced to jump through multiple hoops, I'm guessing it is. Moreover, after talking with one of their representatives who admitted the error, I learned that had they adequately considered my claim initially it would have been denied because they only cover such injuries it the foreign object was actually removed surgically! My point is their policy is nothing but loop holes. I'm not wasting one more second dealing with these buffoons. If you like beating your head against a concrete and wasting copious amounts of time filing paperwork, then this is the policy for you!!!!

Raised rates by 33% w/no claims ever made

While their customer services reps are very very nice, that doesn't in any way mitigate the fact that they raised my dog's monthly premium by 33% and my other dog is set for the same increase when her premium hits the 12 month mark early next year. While I expect modest yearly increases, no amount of justifying can explain this rate increase. In the 12 months I've had my dogs insured with them I've not made one claim. One customer service rep made it sound like the rate increase was specific to CA, but I am on a breed-specific board and I can tell you, the rates are going up by leaps and bounds all over the 50 states. I switched my dogs to Healthy Paws, which is based on the same model as Trupanion. I had assurances from them, verbally and in writing, that yearly premium increases are in the 5% - 7% range.
