I feel I was treated fair and just with my claim.

Within 24 hour, of the vet and the ER vet faxing the insurance forms to Trupanion, we received confirmation, payment and condolonces as our pet eventually died after surgery. In addition, within the same week a notification that Trupanion cancelled our policy and monthly premium and even refunded us the remainder of the month. Since our dog died they had these records and took the initiative. Incredible. We also received an authentic heartfelt condolence note. We had never used Trupanion before, and wasn't sure animal insurance was "worth" the premium but in one tragic emergency they were there emotionally and financially. Truly a customer focused insurance company.

Our 2.5 miniature dachshund had a cervical disk rupture and has been diagnosis with IVDD. We had a middle of the night emergency trip to the vet, followed by appointments with the neurologist specialists, a CT scan, surgery and over a week total in intensive care. Trupanion was really great with our claim. We were pre-approved for the surgery and all care prior. They sent the pre-approval within 12 hours which was great. All cheques were received in a week. They paid out the full 90% and there was very little deductions (consults etc). My only comment would be that if there was an option to pay slightly extra month so that Trupanion would also cover the government taxes on the total, we would go for that – as on a bill of over $10,000, taxes in British Columbia (12%) really add up. All in all, the experience was a 10 out of 10 and I can’t imagine not having the coverage as it allowed us to get the best service for our dog without worrying about the cost (who by the way, 2 weeks post surgery is 100% recovered, we are suppose to keep him very quiet for many weeks, but you can’t even tell he had major surgery). The company reviewed the three claims relating to my dog's knee surgery within the timeline they had outlined during the initial customer service phone inquiry. The reimbursements were made within the timeline, and frankly, I was stunned at the simplicity of the program and the extent of the coverage. Unlike the human counterpart insurance quagmire, the process was seamless, timely, and our expectations were exceeded.
