a customizable plan
When I decided to purchase health insurance for my two pugs I researched most of the plans that were available. Embrace offered the most flexibility in terms of customizing the plan. I was able to choose dental prescription benefits, the co-payment, deductible, and the yearly maximum that seemed best for our needs. Most insurance plans seemed to top out at a much lower yearly limit, $5,000- $7,000 as opposed to $10,000/yr. offered by Embrace. Also, there is no sub-limit for continuing care. This has become a very important feature since my 8 yr. old pug was diagnosed with cancer. She has a serious mast cell tumor on her muzzle which required tricky surgery to remove. She will also require radiation and follow-up monitoring. Her prognosis looks good because with insurance I can afford the best possible treatment for her. The re-imbursements are made in a timely manner, which is important because all Vet bills have to be payed when services are rendered. I don't need to delay treatment because I'm waiting for an insurance payment to help pay for the next round of Vet bills.

Good company
I get the feeling they are a little disorganized but, overall, I am like this company. Their staff seem very concerned and willing to help.

Insurance should be mandatory for all pet owners
I enrolled my dog shortly after adopting him from the SPCA when he was 5 months old. It made sense to me and despite his relative good health over the years the beginning of 2012 has proven to be challenging for us and him. We noticed a lump on his gums and to make a long story short within 2 weeks of seeing vets and a specialist he had to have a mandebelectomy to remove the cancer and part of his jaw. Without pet insurance we still would have proceeded with the very expensive treatments but it would have resulted in a very hard time for us financially. Even though we still have to cover a large sum of money due to the very expensive fees associated with this type of surgery it is very helpful to know that we won't max out our credit cards and be broke for a long time. Our dog is recovering and our fingers are crossed that he will continue to live a long, happy and healthy life. Thanks Trupanion for offering peace of mind during very emoitonally stressful times.

watch for hidden costs
I have repeatedly attempted to ask the call center reps about exactly what it is that they will not cover since I live on a very very limited budget and I need to know what will and wont be covered BEFORE I submit to all the vet's requests on precedures he feels he MUST do...the vets need our money, or rather want it , one or the other or both so they tend to toss in things that arent particularly necessary especially when you say you have vet insurance. They pad up the bill with non-necessities and you come out with a huge bill that you think Trupanion is going to cover, in my case, 90 percent of it. Then you find out when you call that they for some reason are NOT covering the stated 90 percent that they said they would cover since certain procedures and little things on the bill are simply not covered out of the blue... SORRY, WE DONT COVER THAT....I have tried to ask for specifics on this and it falls on deaf ears to the call center reps who seem not to have the time to go over exactly what is and isnt covered....my cat had a parasitic infection which caused him to fall ill and trupanion turned around and said we dont cover the cost to get rid of parasites... you know ... the ones that caused my cat to become very ill but they say if you pay your insurance they will pay 90 percent of all costs incurred to make sure you cat overcomes his illness... uh huh....money money scam scam... look out folks because Trupanion has apparently one of the higher ratings and this is how t

Love Embrace!
Not reading my policies (we have 5 dogs covered with Embrace), I recently submitted a huge bill for our oldest going back almost a year for five surgeries and alot of rehabilitative therapy (about $15,000 worth). While I was very nicely informed that I should submit claims within 60 days of incurring the costs (I'm sorry! I'll do that in the future), Embrace very quickly reviewed the expenses and reimbursed $5,000, the maximum on the accident policy for this dog. While I had hoped for more, this is exactly what was allowed (again, I had neglected to read the policy), and it was paid promptly with no hassle. And it came with personal notes from two Embrace employees, asking how my dog was doing, expressing genuine concern. I doubt any other pet insurance company could do as much as Embrace does!!!

Trupanion Experience
My 1yr old dog had diarrhea that just wouldn't go away so I took him into the vet. They gave fluids, did a fecal exam and prescribed meds. Total claim submitted was $203. They wanted every document under the sun on my pet. Every time I tried to explain that he was only 1 and this was his first illness so he doesn't have much of a file they insisted on more paperwork. As I hadn't settled on one particular vet and had taken him various plays for shots, heartworm meds etc. they asked for the contact info of every Vet he had seen so they could reach out to them. And after providing that info to someone over the phone and seeing nothing happen for over a week I send an email only to hear that she doesn't have any record of a call! So I fax in the receipts/records etc, a few more days go by and finally I get an email saying they are going to cover $56. I should probably add here that up to this point I've paid $900 in premiums. Then I realize that they didn't process the invoice for the Fecal exam. (the vet had put it on a separate invoice the next day because they couldn't get much of a sample on the first day). So I call in AND I send an email to be sure. Rep on the phone says she clearly sees the invoice as they received it on the very first day when I sent it the bills. Nothing happens. Days go by until I send another email stating how unhappy I am. I then get a response telling me they are going to reimburse me for $37 for the fecal exam. At the end of this, I

Good service from Trupanion
In general the process of the claim if very easy to follow with Trupanion. The only part of the process that it's somewhat inneficient it's the response time from the clinic to get the medical records to Trupanion. Not sure if it's a lack of follow up from Trupanion or a lack of response from the Clinic since I need to be checking on both sides. Once Trupanion gets the information, the process is very efficient. I'm happy with the service but I'd be happier if the time of the claim is reduced by improving the process of getting the medical records in a shorter time (It took more than 1 week this time).
