No hassle process of the claim
I've been joining Trupanion for 2 years now. I've had submitted claim forms to Trupanion for 2-3 times. They processed the claims pretty fast without any hassles. Normally it takes a few days for them to completing the claim and they will send the check to me within a week.

best insurance ive had
i have had several pet insurance plans over many years with my samoyeds and i have to say that this company by far is the BEST!!!
i dont always agree with their processing of my claims (some of them they said have been pre existing) but for the most part they have come thru and that is why i am still giving them a 10 rating. Many of the other insurance companies have been more trouble than they have been worth. i have a 7 month old puppy that has had eye ulcers and now allergies and they have come through for her.

DO NOT TURST EMBRACE
HORRIBLE! My dog just turned two.. He has a clean slate, no pre-existing conditions.. I even had the waiting period waived because my vet did an entire check for any and all chronic conditions which she did not find any signs of anything wrong. She filled out the paperwork and submitted it to Embrace. Embrace even emailed me with the "great news" stating that Bleu (my dog) is free of ay pre-existing conditions... blah blah. I was so happy. Well, it has been two months and I noticed a little red pimple looking bump growing out of his skin. Immediately, I took him to the vet and she removed it, she also mentioned that I did not even have to remove it because it was a harmless skin tag. She did a biopsy on it anyways and it came out completely clean & free of all serious possibilities. I then submitted my claim to Embrace...GUESS WHAT.. please read there email below:
"Hello Amanda,
I have reviewed Bleu Pruett's claim along with your pet insurance policy and based upon that review, I am sorry to inform you that this claim is not covered under your policy.
The medical records note the mass on the foot and dermatitis prior to the policy start making masses and dermatological conditions pre-existing conditions. Dermatological conditions may be covered in the future once Bleu Pruett has been free of signs, symptoms, and treatmens for 12 months....."
I then called them complaining and asking tons of questions. I also called my vet to confirm how off this information was.

so far so great !
I have had embrace for a few years but only had to use it this year. My 7yr old Shipoo got diagnosed with bladder stones & a UTI. I had to take her for bloodwork, xrays and follow ups. After my deductible was met they started sending me checks for my coverage. The turn around time and the customer service is excellent. They are very helpful and always answer my questions.

We should have known!
My husband signed up for this insurance because they made it sound so simple. Just send in your bills and they will be paid. It has been nothing but a hassle since we started needing it. I'm sure the vet even hates to see us come in. McKassie was taken to the vet due to lesions on her nose, a biopsy was done and she was diagnosed with lupus. First claim was sent in under wellness claim. Insurance deemed it was not a wellness claim as vet wrote in the observation box what his findings were. Embrace did deduct this amount from the deductible. Next claim was for the biopsey under anesthesia this claim was applied to deductible. When results returned vet ordered medication which was picked up by family member. Had to take McKassie back to vet due to bleeding gums and bruising on body, at this time I had him fill out form for meds that he had ordered along with this visit. He filled this form out as a wellness visit. This time embrace didn't even add this office visit to the deductible. On the "basic wellness rewards" info we printed off the site it says routine care wellness exams & office visits are covered. Apearantly going to the vet isn't an office visit? Between our health insurance and our dogs insurance it is a full time job of paper work.It is hard to give an overall rating as we haven't used any other pet insurance.

Wellness Claim
I neglected to check the date of last years yearly exam, heartworm test, vaccinations, they were not covered because I was a little to early and the claim was denied. I am still enrolled for 2013, so why does it really matter when my yearly exam is? I am only going to have one yearly exam, heartworm test and vaccines. My tip to other insured pet owners, remember our enrollment anniversary!

Buyer beware--not what you'd expect!
Scoundrels! I began a policy for my dog in 2006. He tore his ACL on March 17, 2013 and had surgery on Mar. 26, 2013. It just so happened that the plan year for his policy renews annually on Apr. 15, 2013. Because of this date being 19 days after his surgery, ASPCA denied coverage of medications prescribed at his follow up appointments, saying tht it was now a pre-existing condition and none of his further related expenses would not be covered for another 180 days following surgery date. Just when you need them, ASPCA Pet Health Insurance will duck and weave and deny coverage-- blaming you as the pet-owner for not being smart enough to read all their emails and purchase a special endorsement that would have filled in this big loophole the wrote for themselves in the original policy. Honesty and integrity means nothing to these people.
