Very caring company, great follow through
My dog required double knee surgery. I filled out the pre-certification form and initially my claim was denied as a preexisting condition. The process allows for an appeal which I made with a letter from my vet and my claim was reconsidered and approved. Through the entire process the response from Embrace was very impressive. Each time I sent paperwork I received an email verifying the information had been received and when I should expect a response. Post surgery I was contacted by two different people to make sure I received my payment but more importantly, concerned about the well being and health of my dog. This is hands on customer service at its best. I recommend Embrace to anyone looking for a company that truly believes in their mission and is willing to work closely with each client to help with their specific situation. Lots of companies talk about caring about their customers but Embrace backs it up.

Get Healthy Paws insurance
We bought pet insurance on our dog, Bailey. He was just diagnosed with cancer and thankfully we have Healthy Paws. Surgery and chemo is expensive - over $3,500 so far. Healthy Paws has been awesome and extremely compassionate. Not all pet insurance is the same. We got the 90% reimbursement plan with the $500 annual deductible. Now medical decisions are made based on Bailey's needs and not our pocketbook.

My Adventurous Heeler!!
We rescued a blue heeler last June and he is quite an adventurer. A few weeks ago he cut his paw while getting his daily exercise and a nearby park. The cut required stitches and medication. We are so impressed by the quick response from Embrace in handling our claims. It gives us such peace of mind knowing we have this coverage.

Frustrating experience
My first claim experience with Trupanion wasn't the best and I really don't think I'll keep it much longer. My French bulldog needed an expensive procedure so the rep told me to get a pre approval. Great, I thought, this will speed things along. Well, it didn't quite go like that because she didn't ask me for all the paperwork involved to get the procedure approved. So the day before the surgery I still didn't know they would approve it and if she would have requested all the paperwork involved instead of just sending me a form it wouldn't have been so stressful. Now they're raising my rate and I've only had them for a year and just filed that one claim. When I called to find out why the rep really didn't sound like she knew what she was talking about. I asked to speak with a supervisor and she said it would take 2 days for someone to be able to call me back. 2 days? What kind of customer service is that?

Trupanion Excellent
Trupanion was so easy to deal with. I called in twice, once before we went to the Vet with Sarge and after when I was ready to submit the claim forms. Both folks I spoke to were truly caring about Sarge, his illness and that he would be OK. Also that I had everything I needed. We were traveling at the time so offered lots of options to help with the process. Sarge needed tests and medication and it was all covered. our claim was acknowledged as soon as they received the paperwork. The cheque to cover the expenses was waiting for us when we got home. And YES Sarge is feeling better. So pleased we got Trupanion.

Cancer Diagnosis: What would you do?
My Yorkie-Poo Rocky was 9 years old when he was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer in December of 2013. Many friends who are pet owners asked me why I would spend over $50 a month on pet insurance, and then when I told them Rocky had Cancer they asked me if I was going to put him down...
I told them, that thought never entered my mind & I posed this question in reply. Would you put your human child down if they were diagnosed with Cancer? The answer was no of course. That is why I have pet insurance with the ASPCA.
Rocky's Cancer was detected early enough by my wife and I through our discovery of a large lump in his throat, so that surgery was possible. We have a great Vet and through routine check-ups the tumor was confirmed & diagnosed. He has surgery by a specialist on December 26th, 2013 and they removed the entire tumor and half of his thyroid. Because of early detection, he will not need any chemo or radiation, nor will he need to be on any thyroid medicine.
If I had a human child, I would have done the same as I did for my Dog. I would have health insurance for a child, and I would have the surgery to save their life. The only difference is that with the ASPCA Pet Insurance, it's actually easier to file a claim than with Human Health Insurance, because there is no middle-man to deal with.
I would have spent around $7,000.00 on Rocky's pre-op tests and the actual surgery without pet insurance. I received 90% reimbursement within 4 weeks of the actual surgery.
