My dog, Lola, has been through several bouts of cancer and Trupanion has been so helpful in processing and approving claims efficiently. Sadly, we set our dear girl free yesterday, but with any future dogs I will certainly use Trupanion.

If I were leaving this review a couple of years ago after several very positive claim experiences (unlike other reviews here I found the claims process to be quite straightforward and generous), it would be 5s across the board. However, this company has raised our premium exactly 50% in each of the past 3 years, for a currently monthly rate of $273.10. They clearly apply astronomical rate increases as a pet becomes "senior", knowing full well there are no other options and putting owners in an impossible situation due to age and pre-existing conditions. Rate increases are inevitable in this corrupt system, but this practice is truly predatory. RUN AWAY from Health Paws Pet Insurance.

Delay after delay to pay claims - still not paid
Our dog had seizures for the first time at 5 years old. Because this was our first claim, Lemonade requested medical records for the previous 12 months. Skip ahead one month from the initial claims submission and now their underwriter is asking for his neuter records from when he was 6 months old (4 1/2 years ago). The reviewer claims this is standard practice and written in the contract. The contract clearly states "nose to tail" medical records for previous 12 months. Requesting records for unrelated medical care well beyond the contracted review period service stinks of intential delays or intent to not pay. Multiple emails and multiple platitudes but we are still not reimbursed over a month after the claim.

Nothing is covered
I adopted a cat, Toast, through the local shelter and was able to provide a full health history for the Toast. Of the 3 time in a year and a half I took my cat to the vet, once for an ear infection, once for a check up, and once because of sudden and large nosebleed. I have been denied coverage, made to wait hours for answers, and told that these are preexisting conditions of Toast. What's the point of paying for insurance or having 8k over available funds if I can't use them when my cat needs them. He is literally waiting on a blood transfusion and insurance won't cover what it says in my policy it should. I am livid. I may lose my cat with available funds in my insurance watches. This is the most backwards ass company with no heart. Don't use.

I wish my health insurance was this good
We have been a Healthy Paws member for six years and luckily have had only one major health issue with our adopted dog. He recently underwent surgery on his knee for a luxated patella. The claim process couldn’t have been easier. I was nicely surprised that the check arrived within a week of submitting the claim and all of the surgery expenses were covered including post rehab treatments, no questions asked. They even followed up after the surgery to check up on his progress. If only my health insurance company was so customer focused!
