Three years ago, we adopted our little pit bull mix Birdie. She was the eighth dog we had fostered that year and was sweet and small and ran away with our hearts, so we decided to make her a permanent part of our family. Almost immediately after we signed the adoption papers we discovered that Birdie had a serious, life threatening liver problem which we then spent several weeks and several thousand dollars treating her for, finally bringing her back to perfect health. After that serious and costly illness, we decided to listen to some of our wiser friends and our veterinarian who had all been suggesting we look into pet insurance. After checking out several companies and comparing rates, coverage, and reviews, we enrolled Birdie in a Healthy Paws Pet Insurance plan, and boy are we glad we did. A year or so after getting her policy, Birdie ran across the yard in pursuit of a squirrel and came back limping badly, her right leg dangling loosely above the ground. X-rays and examinations showed that she had torn a major stabilizing ligament in her right knee and required an extreme repair--TPLO surgery. The surgery cost a stunning $2,600, was very successful, and better yet--Healthy Paws covered 90% of the costs after our deductible, so we received compensation in the range of $2200! Wow! Our puppy ended up contracting parvovirus. She recovered and we decided to get pet insurance. Almost a year later we found out she had kidney disease due to an infection. Embrace took over a month to process the claim only to find out that because she had vomited and had diarreah when she had parvo they would not cover her. They sated that vomiting and diarreah are symptoms of kidney disease. We had racked up 7k in bills before we even found out she was not covered.

I am very grateful to Embrace Pet Insurance in general - and to the customer-service claims Embracers. Amanda Collins acted so speedily and thoroughly on my most recent illness claim for one of my cats. However, being a lower-income person, a disabled senior, I wish I could afford to have a lower deductible. It's disheartening to have that $500 deductible amount, in terms of some of the ongoing health issues my rescued special-needs kitty is bound to have. That's just my life at this point. But at least the Wellness part of my pet insurance for that same kitty, for special diet food, is a big help throughout the year.

Our initial claim was processed quickly and without any complications. I filed two additional claims for follow up on the same diagnosis. Both claims were handles within a week with no hassle etc. I am very satisfied with Trupanion and would recommend to others.

It was the first time I've made a claim and it was very quick and painless. They paid exactly what I had calculated and I am very happy with this insurance.

We have had such a wonderful experience with Trupanion thus far. The monthly fees for our cat have seemed reasonable. And they've more than paid for themselves. Our cat required several expensive procedures to remove almost half of her teeth due to resorption issues. That itself was stressful, as was the fear over whether we'd have a good experience with the insurance. We needn't have worried about that. Trupanion was very fast in responding to our pre-authorization requests (responding within the same day) when we explained the time-sensitive nature of our requests. And after submitting our claim forms, they indeed covered 90% of eligible expenses after the deductible. We received payment within a week or two of claim submission, as well. On top of that, every interaction I had with them over the phone was quite pleasant. In addition to discussing the details of the work our cat needed, they showed concern and always wished us and our cat well. That was a nice touch, on top of the already great service. This has been our only interaction with Trupanion over the 2 years or so we've had coverage, but based on this experience, we'd absolutely recommend them.
