Pet insurance is a scam in the majority of cases
We’ve had our policy for thirteen years on one dog and 8 years on another. With a deductible of $200 per claim and a monthly cost that started at <$100 per animal and has steadily increased to $150 per animal now.
So here’s how the numbers stack up: assume a 13 year lifespan per animal @ $300 per month and you’ve spent $46,800 over the course of your policy. This doesn’t include deductibles and other ancillary costs that are invariably not covered. I’m so deep in now with wasting my money that I have to see it through. My recommendation to anyone considering pet insurance: put the equivalent of your policy quote into a TFSA and enjoy a 5% interest return on it through the course of your pet’s life. If you need it, it’s there. If you don’t end up needing it, you have a windfall at the end. Double win. Pet insurance is a scam. Invest in yourself. Wish I took the time to crunch the numbers before getting hoodwinked.
