Trupanion Review
We own Chelsea, a 10 year old Golden Retriever and purchased pet insurance within a few weeks of getting her as a puppy. Although we had owned dogs before and never encountered any serious medical injuries or illnesses, we have had numerous occasions to submit claims for Chelsea. When she was about 1 1/2, she had an accident while running on the beach and was diagnosed with a right medial patellar luxation and surgery was performed at the Atlantic Veterinary College. After the surgery, she attended physiotherapy for several weeks. The total cost for this was over $7,000.00 and pursuant to the terms of our insurance, 90% was paid by Trupanion. Chelsea later had to have surgery for gastric dilatation/volvulus which cost over $2,000.00 and she now has arthritis and thyroid issues so we are very thankful that we have the pet insurance in place. My daughter recently became the owner of a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever puppy and immediately enrolled in an insurance plan for him. I believe that when you own a pet you take on the responsibility for looking after the pet and attending to any medical issues that may arise and, for us, paying the monthly insurance premium is preferable to facing bills of several thousand dollars at one time. Trupanion has always paid our claims as set out in the policy and has done so in a timely manner.
