Trupanion pets lead longer happier lives.1 Pets insured with Trupanion lived longer than pets without Trupanion because pet parents didn’t have to worry about the cost of the care their pet needed. Depending on the plan Trupanion covers up to 90% of eligible expenses, has unlimited payouts-always, and can pay your vet bill, within seconds, at time of checkout, so all you pay is your portion (anything not covered by Trupanion). Excellent service

Had a claim for our dog at the beginning of the 30 day trial period after we adopted him. Communication was excellent and claim processing was prompt. We've already signed - up to continue our policy once the 30 days expires.

Fast, thorough, and compassionate

My dog needed emergency surgery to remove a pine cone that he had swallowed whole. My claim was processed extremely quickly; I received an acknowledgment within 24 hours, and the payment was in the mail within 48. When I had a question about why exam fees were not covered, the response was prompt and thorough, and the rep showed great compassion for my little dog and his recovery. Currently, Trupanion does not cover exam fees, and this is a drawback. I am hopeful they will re-consider this policy in the future.

Absorptive lesion to tooth caused by trauma

During a routine dental cleaning (not covered by pet insurance) my veterinarian discovered trauma in the form of an absorptive lesion to one of blue's teeth requiring it to be removed. Since my vet determined it was caused by trauma and not the mild grade one dental disease which the cleaning was completely rectifying, they assured me that this would be something covered under pet insurance. Well trupanion decided that it wasn't and now I have to go through a lengthy appeal process to receive the reimbursement I know I deserve for the procedure, and to top it off my vet is on vacation adding to the length of time I'll have money tied up in something that was so obviously reimbursable according to Blue's doctor, not pleased

Seamless

My cat Bliss had an eye problem and a bump on lip, she needed a biopsy and eye swab and antibiotics, everything was submitted and taken care of within a week, the invoice was very informational and understanding, and received my cheque within a week. I recommand Trupanion because they are efficent and handle with care.

Monthly Cost

Monthly cost varies due to multiple factors including: species, breed, age at enrollment, gender, and postal code.

Coverage

One simple plan covers new injuries and illnesses, hereditary, congenital, and chronic conditions—once the deductible is met, Trupanion pays 90% of the remaining invoice. To view a full list of inclusions and exclusions, check out our sample policy here.

Payout Limits

Unlimited lifetime payouts on eligible conditions with no payout limits-ever.

Deductible

You can choose your deductible from $0 – $1000, in $5 increments, to fit your budget. Trupanion offers a lifetime, per condition deductible meaning that once the deductible is met for an eligible condition, you never have to meet it again. That condition is covered for life. This is great for chronic conditions that can span the entirety of a pet’s life such as allergies or cancer.

Age Limits

All pets under 14 years old can enroll. Once enrolled, pets stay insured regardless of age.

Waiting Period

Accidents: 5 days Illnesses: 30 days Other providers may have additional waiting periods for congenital conditions like hip dysplasia, Trupanion does not.

Exclusions

Trupanion was developed to protect you and your pet from unexpected illnesses and injuries.
