Beware of multiple claim processing errors …
Trupanion has processed my claims incorrectly on multiple occasions, assigning claims to different deductibles other than what is specified on the claim submission. This matter is a great deal because Trupanion pays benefits based on whether you have met a deductible per condition. So when they classify one condition under one deductible for one vet visit and under another deductible for another vet visit for the same condition, you are not making progress toward your lifetime deductible for that condition. Most recently, they split my claim submission into two deductibles, adding a condition that was completely unrelated to the vet visit. The two customer service agents I spoke with refused to correct it and are forcing my vet to appeal the decision. I asked to speak with a high-level manager and was told this would take 5 to 7 days. The customer service agent would not provide me with the name of her manager. She said she did not know the name of the person who would be reaching out. She also told me that I could avoid these errors in the future by submitting vet records with my claims. Isn’t that the job of the claims processor? To request records if they have a question about the claim? They also denied a legitimate claim thatI am also forced to file an appeal for. In that instance, the deductible had been met, but they are claiming it is a completely separate condition.
This insurance company has been a disappointment overall, and the continued claims errors and refusal to address their claims processing mistakes takes my dissatisfaction to a whole new level.
