Consistently Excellent Experiences

My husband and I have two dogs and two cats that are covered by Trupanion. One cat in particular has had some serious medical issues. He had been struggling with urinary tract blockages, but we were trying to treat it medically and with a prescription diet. Unfortunately that didn't work. One week ago he had a crisis, and his bladder ruptured. I rushed him to an urgent care veterinary clinic. After many tests and treatments to stabilize him, he had surgery to repair the bladder and perform a perineal urethrostomy (so hopefully this won't happen again). Trupanion charged us the deductible ONCE, even though Max had seen three different doctors, and then paid 90% of the rather large bill. No questions asked. We are so impressed with Trupanion, and recommend that everyone with pets invest in this insurance. It allowed us to have the peace of mind to be able to tell the doctors to do whatever was necessary to save Max. Max is home now and healing beautifully! Thank you Trupanion!

A Veterinarian's Perspective

Last year Trupanion offered 30 day free membership to new customers and encouraged us to offer it to clients. If the client signed up with Trupanion immediately, before diagnostics were completed, the diagnosis would be covered, as it was not pre-existing. This, however was NOT. the case. According to Trupanion, if you take your kitten to the vet because she just started vomiting, then it's a pre-existing condition if she vomited prior to the exam. If your dog was lame at home before you brought him in for lameness....guess what? Yep. Pre-existing because he limped at home. Claims were denied time and again. Do yourself a favor and go with PetPlan or VPI. Unconscionable.

Amazing Service in a Time of Need

Our beloved Golden Retriever, Livvy, began having seizures. Upon taking her to our emergency hospital and having an MRI done we found out she had a brain tumor. Based on where the tumor was located we opted for surgery. Without Trupanion Insurance we would not have been able to give our girl the one opportunity for survival. It is with a heavy heart that we must say she took a turn for the worse and we had to bid her goodbye. However, we feel she had the best care possible and we have peace knowing everything under heaven was done for her. Trupanion paid the claim almost immediately and kept us updated in a timely manner which allowed us to concentrate on the situation at hand. I would highly recommend Trupanion to all pet owners. We never really thought we would need to use their services, however when the unexpected happens it is a true blessing.

Pleasantly Surprised

My 7 year old Pit has been insured with Trupanion practically since birth. I am not a good saver - I see Trupanion as a kind of savings account for her care. Kind of like my own health insurance which costs more and reimburses less :). Ive never had call to use it until this year with two separate lameness incidents. I was seriously stressed about making a claim. I shouldn't have been -Trupanion walked me through the process and reimbursed my claims within ONE WEEK. I recommend them to everyone. THANK YOU TRUPANION for being honest and keeping your promises.

Thanks to Trupanion I can afford the diagnostic pr

The the vet ordered some blood tests ,when my dog's appetite decreased 'just to be sure'he wasn't just getting more picky.Unfortunately ,the tests indicated a liver problem .Supportive therapy was not enough.Eventually a liver biopsy helped to start more targeted treatment ,which has just begun and will continue under the direction of a veterinarian internist. With all this worry ,I am happy to say Trupanion has come through for us every step of the way so far.

Monthly Cost

Your monthly premium is determined by multiple factors including your pet’s species, gender, breed, age, zip code, and the deductible amount you choose if your policy allows.

Coverage

Depending on your plan, the Trupanion policy pays up to 100% of your vet bill for all eligible expenses. There are unlimited payout limits, always and Trupanion will never increase or cancel your coverage because of claims you submit. Coverage includes new accidents and illnesses, hereditary, congenital, and chronic conditions, diagnostic tests, hospital stays, and much more. Trupanion prides itself on paying out more on the dollar than any other provider and has paid out nearly $2 billion in claims to date.

Payout Limits

The Trupanion policy* has no payout limits, so whether your pet needs one quick visit or a lifetime of care, your coverage won’t quit. That can mean a big difference if your pet develops a chronic condition requiring extended care like allergies, diabetes, or even cancer.

Deductible

If your Trupanion policy has a deductible, you can customize it to fit your budget. You can choose from $50 to $1,000 in increments of $5, or choose to have no deductible at all. Trupanion deductibles are per-condition and good for the life of your pet. That means no annual resets-once a deductible is met, you never have to pay the deductible for that condition again.

Age Limits

All new pets can enroll from birth until their 14th birthday. Once your pet is enrolled, they can be enrolled for life

Waiting Period

Waiting periods vary by state. Please see your states policy for full coverage details. However, other providers may have additional waiting periods for congenital conditions like hip dysplasia, Trupanion does not.

Exclusions

Trupanion was developed to protect you and your pet from unexpected illnesses and injuries.
