Pets can be full of surprises-so their insurance coverage shouldn’t be. That’s why Trupanion is dedicated to helping pets we love get the care they need. They’ve been around for more than 20 years, making them experts and setting standards for the industry. One perk of this, and what they pride themselves on, is the amount they pay out to pet owners for each claim. Paying out more on the dollar than any other pet insurance provider. To date they have paid out $2 Billion in claims and have insured nearly 1 million pets.
Trupanion pets lead longer happier lives.1 Pets insured with Trupanion lived longer than pets without Trupanion because pet parents didn’t have to worry about the cost of the care their pet needed. Depending on the plan Trupanion covers up to 90% of eligible expenses, has unlimited payouts-always, and can pay your vet bill, within seconds, at time of checkout, so all you pay is your portion (anything not covered by Trupanion). They have transformed the way pet insurance handles claims by eliminating the reimbursement process.
To put it simply, there is a reason why 98.7% of Trupanion members stay enrolled every month.

My dog ate a glove and needed emergency surgery. $5000 later and a few days at the pet hospital I was really worried my claim might not be covered because just a couple months ago my dog needed to go to the hospital for something else that came out to roughly $2000. Within 2 days I heard back from trupanion that they were covering my claim (on Christmas eve). An excellent Christmas present as my stress regarding the money was put to rest.

True Pet Angels
My little furry baby was having such discomfort and i brought her in so scared of the medical bills right before Christmas. To my surprise the vet submitted everything and I walked away paying just my deductible and emergency vet visit. Trupanion took care of sending payment directly to my vet for almost 900.00. I have gone back and forth many times over two years whether it was an investment I could make but I am here to tell you I will never doubt having it again.

fast, hassle free process
Kai was first seen on Dec. 19 for vomiting and weight loss. The claim for this visit was processed the next day. He was then seen for an ultrasound and gastroscopy on Dec 22 and that payment was processed Dec26th. We appreciated the quick service from Trupanion. The only negative is the fact that exams and consults are not covered as every vet and surgeon who so much as looked at him charged us for a consult. I feel only the initial exam should be charged to the owner as one really has no control over the other charges and every "exam" did not provide any new information, but rather just felt like a money grab from a family too shell shocked to realize this. After the diagnosis of terminal cancer, all following exams should be covered

Couldn't Have Done It Without Them!
Trupanion is, by far, the most honest and helpful company I’ve ever had the pleasure to work with. After my experiences this year, I seriously recommend that if you care about your dog, get him or her a policy. The following is a story that will prove why a simple monthly bill will save you in the future. (I’m a teacher, not a salesperson, so my apologies for this long essay!)
My dog's name is Rosie and she is around 13 years old. A beagle/rat-terrier mix, she has adorably corgi-like ears and brown eyes that look right into your soul. Rosie is a trained therapy and retired service dog and has put smiles on more people’s faces than I can remember.
Rosie had a rough life as a puppy. It wasn’t until she was around 3 years old that a rescue group saved her and she adopted me. The veterinarian who helped me get Rosie healthy again recommended dog insurance. After some investigation and consideration, I signed up with Trupanion. This was because they cover 90% of the actual veterinarian's bill (not what an unknown group claimed a treatment “should” cost). They understand that a vet bill for a service in Massachusetts may be different than that same service in Colorado. They also have no payoff limit. So, I paid the monthly bill and kept up with her health.
Trupanion helped with her bills throughout her life, but their true commitment to caring for animals showed this year when Rosie started having difficulties climbing stairs and stopped running around. Our veterinarian did all sorts of tests and treatments. All this time, Trupanion kept up with their end of the deal, helping with costs that included multiple x-rays, medications and blood work. They never declined a bill. After exhausting his resources, our vet recommended we see a specialist. After a consultation with a top-notch surgeon, the problem was identified, and Rosie went in for surgery the next day.
As it turned out, Rosie had a lipomatous mass (the benign fatty tumors that look like lumps under the skin of many dogs). However, unlike those that grow under the skin and create no health risks, this one was between her hipbone and muscle. As it grew, it pushed the muscle away from her bone and snaked its way through any opening it could. Altogether, I estimate it was about the size of an egg. Our wonderful surgeon was able to remove it… including the part that had grown all the way around the sciatic nerve (if you don’t know what that is, I recommend you look it up… my dog was in a lot more

Still having treatment, awaiting surgery date.
Had tooth that was broken removed and 5 lumps biopsied, 2-3 lumps came back as possible cancer, awaiting surgery date Jan 8th, 2015.
Your monthly premium is determined by multiple factors including your pet’s species, gender, breed, age, zip code, and the deductible amount you choose if your policy allows.
Coverage
Depending on your plan, the Trupanion policy pays up to 100% of your vet bill for all eligible expenses. There are unlimited payout limits, always and Trupanion will never increase or cancel your coverage because of claims you submit. Coverage includes new accidents and illnesses, hereditary, congenital, and chronic conditions, diagnostic tests, hospital stays, and much more. Trupanion prides itself on paying out more on the dollar than any other provider and has paid out nearly $2 billion in claims to date.
Payout Limits
The Trupanion policy* has no payout limits, so whether your pet needs one quick visit or a lifetime of care, your coverage won’t quit.
That can mean a big difference if your pet develops a chronic condition requiring extended care like allergies, diabetes, or even cancer.
Deductible
If your Trupanion policy has a deductible, you can customize it to fit your budget. You can choose from $50 to $1,000 in increments of $5, or choose to have no deductible at all. Trupanion deductibles are per-condition and good for the life of your pet. That means no annual resets-once a deductible is met, you never have to pay the deductible for that condition again.
Age Limits
All new pets can enroll from birth until their 14th birthday. Once your pet is enrolled, they can be enrolled for life
Waiting Period
Waiting periods vary by state. Please see your states policy for full coverage details.
However, other providers may have additional waiting periods for congenital conditions like hip dysplasia, Trupanion does not.
Exclusions
Trupanion was developed to protect you and your pet from unexpected illnesses and injuries. That means we don’t cover “predictable” care costs that you can plan ahead for, like:
Examination fees
Wellness and preventive care
Elective, or cosmetic procedures
Sales tax, where applicable
Like many other pet insurance providers, Trupanion does not cover pre-existing conditions. Whichever insurer you choose, it pays to enroll early!
