Premium ripoff
I had a decent experience with this company handling claims until they started raising my premiums for no obvious reason. My fees increased 12 percent from $45 in May 2017 to $51.35 three months later in August 2017. If that wasn’t enough Trupanion then raised it an enormous 38 percent from $51.35 to $82.73 a year later in August 2018! I emailed them to cancel the policy. They have no way to cancel on their website or any other way except to call them by phone so instead I sent them an email. They would not immediately cancel and left me multiple messages to call them to ‘’talk about it.’’ I was appalled and did not call them. Finally they let me know the policy was canceled but they charged me a prorated fee at this exorbitant, inflated premium for one day because I didn’t realize they had raised their rates until I saw it on my credit card a day after the first of the month. I contacted my credit card company and they said to contact the vendor again. I did and Trupanion refused to remove the charge, or charge me for the lower premium approved credit card rate. This is dishonest, unscrupulous and underhanded business practice and they should know better than to treat their customers so poorly. I highly suggest you avoid enrolling your pet with their insurance because my guess is they will eventually do the same kind of thing to you.

I am very impressed with the way that…
I am very impressed with the way that Trupanion handled my dog's life-threatening and expensive bout of pancreatitis this past May. They initially denied the claim as a pre-existing condition because the dog had had an episode of drug-induced pancreatitis about 15 months before I signed up for insurance. When I discussed this with the veterinarian, she said that Trupanion was a good company in her experience, and that she would write a letter in support of an appeal because, in her opinion, the recent illness was a completely different disease from the earlier episode. Trupanion reviewed the appeal, reversed the denial, and very quickly issued a payment. I am very impressed with the speed with which they reviewed the initial claim and the appeal, and made payment. Based on this experience, I have already recommended Trupanion to several friends.

So happy to have Trupanion coverage.
When our cat was healthy, we doubted whether we should pay the monthly premiums. Then we found out our beautiful cat has only 25% of his kidneys and he is only 11. Fortunately we never cancelled his insurance. Vet bills are expensive and because of Trupanion, we can focus on giving him care and love without the worry of vet bills. Thank you, Trupanion.

Trupanion acknowledges and pays claims promptly.
Unlike the insurance woes we experience with our insurance carrier, Trupanion acknowledges receipt of our claims, clearly explains if there is a decline and pays promptly. My experience has been they pay within a weeks time.
Monthly Cost
Your monthly premium is determined by multiple factors including your pet’s species, gender, breed, age, zip code, and the deductible amount you choose if your policy allows.
Coverage
Depending on your plan, the Trupanion policy pays up to 100% of your vet bill for all eligible expenses. There are unlimited payout limits, always and Trupanion will never increase or cancel your coverage because of claims you submit. Coverage includes new accidents and illnesses, hereditary, congenital, and chronic conditions, diagnostic tests, hospital stays, and much more. Trupanion prides itself on paying out more on the dollar than any other provider and has paid out nearly $2 billion in claims to date.
Payout Limits
The Trupanion policy* has no payout limits, so whether your pet needs one quick visit or a lifetime of care, your coverage won’t quit.
That can mean a big difference if your pet develops a chronic condition requiring extended care like allergies, diabetes, or even cancer.
Deductible
If your Trupanion policy has a deductible, you can customize it to fit your budget. You can choose from $50 to $1,000 in increments of $5, or choose to have no deductible at all. Trupanion deductibles are per-condition and good for the life of your pet. That means no annual resets-once a deductible is met, you never have to pay the deductible for that condition again.
Age Limits
All new pets can enroll from birth until their 14th birthday. Once your pet is enrolled, they can be enrolled for life

Waiting periods vary by state. Please see your states policy for full coverage details.
However, other providers may have additional waiting periods for congenital conditions like hip dysplasia, Trupanion does not.
Exclusions
Trupanion was developed to protect you and your pet from unexpected illnesses and injuries. That means we don’t cover “predictable” care costs that you can plan ahead for, like:
Examination fees
Wellness and preventive care
Elective, or cosmetic procedures
Sales tax, where applicable
