No brainer
Having watched friends spend lots of money on pet emergencies, I promised myself that if I ever got a dog, I would also get dog insurance. I just didn't expect to need it so fast! Zoey, our lab mix, was attacked & bit by another dog when she was 4 months old. The entire ordeal lasted over a month & included several rounds of antibiotics, surgery to debride the wound along with drainage tubes (EEEW) and that well-loved e-collar for 3 weeks.
My total cost was $956. trupanion covered 90% of the costs, less the exam fees, less the laser therapy (which they are considering covering in the future since it is so commonly used these days)and less the deductible of $250.
I sent all of the paperwork into them on August 18th and had checks for $524 on August 24th. I also heard from the local trupanion representative throughout.
The claims process was super simple, I just faxed the forms in and had email responses immediately.
I really wish they covered the laser therapy and the follow up exam fees (luckily my vet saw my dog several times without charging me at all), and I wish I had gone with no deductible, but even so, having the coverage paid for itself, the filing process was painless and trupanion was super fast responding & reimbursing.
