Policy is difficult to understand
I have a very hard time understanding policy stuff. An app that could walk me through it, via YouTube or click on a page and says what it is about.

Coverage has meant survival
Having coverage for my pet has literally meant his survival. No pet owner wants to face the choice of an unimaginable vet bill or death of a beloved pet.

I have never had a problem
I have never had a problem in getting my claims handled quickly, and when I speak with Trupanion's customer service on the phone they are friendly and very empathetic to my plight...and they always ask about my pets!

They will take your money and leave your pet to suffer
Was recommended to trupanion by my vet for a blind cat I had rescued. I brought the cat in 3 Days after I found him for a general wellness visit and was given a free thirty days which i then continued with. Thank goodness I only paid for a few months of coverage before an issue arose. Brought the cat in about 2 months after the policy started for straining to urinate. Claim was denied stating that it was considered a preexisting condition. This was due to a note that the vet tech had mistakenly put in my notes during the wellness visit saying that I had brought the cat into another clinic for the same issue over a MONTH prior to the wellness exam. I didn't even have the cat a month ago!! When I explained the mistake in the notes to the vet and the review team at trupanion they said there was nothing that could be done since it was now an "official part of his records". When i questioned that they would allow FALSE information to remain in a record by an unlicensed vet technician, and what if it had said that he was part rabbit? Would they also allow THAT to remain? They said it would be the same situation! Also any issues that COULD be deemed related to a possible uti in the next 18 months would now also be considered prexisting! Luckily I scraped enough money up to cover his treatment but I then went to cancel the policy....it took 72 hours to get a callback by a person who could cancel the policy. I then had to respond to an email writing I hadn't "changed my mind" and still wanted to cancel. I did it. I was supposed to get almost a whole month reimbursed as it had just charged me the $42 for the next month. I thought the next thing I would hear from trupanion was that the refund had posted. Wrong. I got an email saying they were trying to charge me another month and that my payment info needed to be updated! Spoke with a rep who offered to back date it to my original cancel date citing "spam filters" and that they never received my confirmation of cancellation email. So I did what he asked and sent another email to the address he provided. Got a confirmation Of cancelation for almost a month AFTER my cancel date. Bye bye refund??? Called back and was told by a different rep that if I couldn't provide PROOF that i had responded to them in the first cancellation confirmation email that there was nothing they were willing to do. Asked to speak to a manager and of course none was available so I'm waiting to get a call back......
All I've heard are horror stories about this company which with what I experienced first hand I can only believe are true. I can only be thankful I'm not one of the people who've paid in for years only to have this company find a way to leave them desperate with a sick pet and a pile of claim denials. What this company is doing to people trying to protect their pets is attrocious.
Monthly Cost
Your monthly premium is determined by multiple factors including your pet’s species, gender, breed, age, zip code, and the deductible amount you choose if your policy allows.
Coverage
Depending on your plan, the Trupanion policy pays up to 100% of your vet bill for all eligible expenses. There are unlimited payout limits, always and Trupanion will never increase or cancel your coverage because of claims you submit. Coverage includes new accidents and illnesses, hereditary, congenital, and chronic conditions, diagnostic tests, hospital stays, and much more. Trupanion prides itself on paying out more on the dollar than any other provider and has paid out nearly $2 billion in claims to date.
Payout Limits
The Trupanion policy* has no payout limits, so whether your pet needs one quick visit or a lifetime of care, your coverage won’t quit.
That can mean a big difference if your pet develops a chronic condition requiring extended care like allergies, diabetes, or even cancer.
Deductible
If your Trupanion policy has a deductible, you can customize it to fit your budget. You can choose from $50 to $1,000 in increments of $5, or choose to have no deductible at all. Trupanion deductibles are per-condition and good for the life of your pet. That means no annual resets-once a deductible is met, you never have to pay the deductible for that condition again.
Age Limits
All new pets can enroll from birth until their 14th birthday. Once your pet is enrolled, they can be enrolled for life

Waiting periods vary by state. Please see your states policy for full coverage details.
However, other providers may have additional waiting periods for congenital conditions like hip dysplasia, Trupanion does not.
Exclusions
Trupanion was developed to protect you and your pet from unexpected illnesses and injuries. That means we don’t cover “predictable” care costs that you can plan ahead for, like:
Examination fees
Wellness and preventive care
Elective, or cosmetic procedures
Sales tax, where applicable
Like many other pet insurance providers, Trupanion does not cover pre-existing conditions. Whichever insurer you choose, it pays to enroll early!
