I am extremely unhappy with Spot
I am extremely unhappy with Spot. I have had them for 12 months, I initiated the policy right when I got my puppy (she was 8 weeks), I started an accident+illness plan with a $500 deductible. To date (September 2024) I have paid $720 in policy premiums ($60.00/mo), I have submitted about $984 in claims from my vet for various things over the last year - most of them were categorized as "wellness" and thus, not covered by my policy. Fine, I get that. Fast forward to present day, I audit my finances, see that I have spent over $1800 on my dog between vet bills, policy premiums, whatever - fine, great, I love my dog want the best for her, not an issue. My issue comes into play when I contact Spot to cancel my policy because it doesn't make financial sense for me, my dog, or my financial situation. The rep tells me ok, I'll cancel but I see you had a claim for Otitis (a simple run-of-the-mill doggy ear infection) which was treated & resolved by the way! (neither here nor there), she (the rep) goes on to say, this is INCURABLE, and a chronic condition, then she backtracks & states it's an allergy & you (me) will never have that covered by us or any other pet insurance company. Then the hard-sell bully tactics begin in effort to get me to keep my policy. I have 2 major issues with this 1) are you (the rep) a vet? or even a vet tech? are you familiar with my dog's condition? 2) Ok fine, it's never covered again (ooooh, I'm shaking in my boots) so I have to pay for my dog's potential, future ear infection out of pocket? Ok? So? Wouldn't the appropriate response be to tell me "just be aware that you have a documented condition that will likely be denied in the future should you submit any claims for that specific condition. All of this is relatively moot as my dog's ear condition was not classified as chronic, nor an allergy or any other excluded condition. I am extremely disappointed in the competency of the folks speaking on their product, they are not versed & they lack basic ability to explain things adequately. I will take my money elsewhere & my main takeaway is that I learned that having an overall healthy pup, I should have shopped for a different product altogether. I should have been comparing accident/emergency plans, not wellness+accident, the reimbursement was crap & I ended up paying 9/10 of my vet bills on my own!
