Thank god we had pet insurance!

Pets Best's plan is very clear and easy to understand, and when our dog was attacked and needed surgery, the company delivered exactly what they said they would. In addition, the ability to submit claims online is very convenient, as is the ability to have the insurance money direct deposited into our bank account. I am so grateful to Pets Best. My only recommendation would be to get the higher per incident limit. The $2500 we got to cover the surgery was really helpful, but the total cost was $5500. Next year, I'll be getting the $7000 per incident limit.

Every Claim Denied

I adopted a four month old kitten from a local shelter. I took her to the vet prior to my Pets Best policy taking effect. What a mistake!!! Since that initial health exam every claim I have submitted has been denied due to pre-existing conditions. I guess I should have taken her to the vet pre-adoption for a check up and returned her if she did not have a clean bill of health. Maybe I should have had her evaluated in momma's womb. Pets Best at one time was good insurance, however since being taken over by Aetna all they want is to collect your premium and deny legitimate claims.

Simply the Best Pet Insurance

I have been with Pets Best coming up on 4 years. I have seven pets insured. Pets Best has definitely paid many times over for itself. I hear people say why not take the monthly fee (all of $30 or so) and save it for health care. Well that won't make a dent for a long-term illness that can cost thousands over the years. My cat Bandit has diabetes and Pets Best has already paid thousands on his illness. My dog Sadie had three MRI studies totaling about $3400, and we got 80% refunded to us within 10 days with direct deposit. There is not way I could have saved that kind of money in the bank, so I had to put it on my credit card and thank god we could pay it off with the insurance coverage. Some companies, as another reviewer mentioned, offer deductibles per year rather than per incident, but I would be careful with those companies as their per incident limits are usually quite low in comparison. Other insurances rarely have such high per incident limits, which is really most important. Pets Best make it so easy for me to get reimbursed because they cover almost everything unlike other insurances who have a schedule of benefits with strict limits. My only desire for the pet insurance industry in general is to have a program for people who do not always have the money up-front to pay thousands of dollars for a major illness.....we are stuck if you don't have any more credit. Thanks Pets Best for being there.

What exactly do they pay for?

I've had multiple claims denied for my dog (and was a customer for years). For some reason or another, they will say that whatever it is I'm claiming, that it is a "result" of some other pre-existing codition that I did not even put a claim in for (nor is it related). They put in multiple requests for medical records years back so they could do everything in their power to find some other illness to "link" the new problem to. For example, my dog was putting on extra weight(and had other issues), so the vet had thyroid tests (bloodwork) done to rule out an abnormal thyroid. I was told the claim was denied because the blood test came back "negative" and that the claim was a related issue of skin allergies...huh?? Simply because I happened to have my dog in that day for a visit for her allergies (that I do not claim). They couldnt even pay for that portion of the visit, her bloodwork to check her thyroid, which was something totally unrelated to her skin allergies. Im sure if my dog breaks a leg or something that too will be related to allergies...Only thing I can say is that customer service is quite pleasant to speak with as they are spewing out excuses of why they won't pay.... I work in healthcare and constantly have to fight with Aetna to pay for services for my patients, I guess why would their pet insurance be any different? Sad.
