In general… it’s better than nothing

In general, I like PetsBest. It is pretty easy to submit claims, even though it’s a little clunky and it’s hard to submit claims for more than one type of treatment without submitting the same invoices multiple times. Be aware of and always check the formulary— some very commonly used, well trusted meds with wide applications are absent from the formulary and you don’t want to be caught off guard thinking that your pet is covered only to find out that, no, this policy is not nearly as useful as some other, less expensive policies out there by carriers who aren’t trying to make sure they can dodge as many claims as possible. Coverage caps on any riders are pretty low, and again, LOTS of prescriptions just simply aren’t covered. Read the fine print. You don’t always get what you pay for, especially with PetsBest.

Long processing times and unrealistic annual incrrases

I have had pet insurance on both my dogs for almost 3 years now and have made very few claims. They claims I have made, have almost always applied to my annual deductible so I have barely been paid out. It takes weeks to process claims and every year my premiums have doubled and my dogs aren’t even that old. It has definitely not been worth it for me so far and if the premiums continue to double YOY then I’m not sure I can afford to keep these policies. I encourage people to shop around and understand the policy fully and annual increases as I was expecting a small increase but not double when I’ve barely been paid out.

Not worth the money

It’s just annoying if I compare the amount I pay vs the amount you reimburse. I feel like if my dog doesn’t get hit by a car your insurance isn’t worth it

Peace of Mind

My dog suffered from renal dysplasia that was diagnosed when he was just 5 months. I will always be grateful to have had a policy with Pets Best as it allowed us to give him the very best of care throughout his short life without worrying about the cost. His prognosis when diagnosed was just 200-400 days. But because of the care I was able to give him he survived nearly 1000 days and had a wonderful life that was for the most part pain-free. I always tell everyone I know who gets a new pet to purchase a policy from Pets Best. Many tell me it's a waste of money and that they would never need to submit a claim. I tell them if they never submit a claim, they are lucky to have never needed it. But just looking at your dog, you would never know until it is too late. Pets Best always paid my claims cheerfully and without putting me through hoops. The times I called and talked to customer service I talked to empathetic, helpful, and courteous customer service agents. Despite that the amounts of my claims easily exceeded my annual premiums, Pets Best never increased my premium amounts.

After one year they double your rate

After one year they double your rate, even after no claims. Then, the one and only claim — for a bee sting, not anything that turned out to be a threatening chronic condition — took the two months to resolve. Avoid this company. I’m looking for another insurer

Monthly Cost

$6 and up, depending on your chosen plan.

Coverage

Accident and Illness plans with optional reimbursement levels of 70%, 80%, or 90% after the deductible. Flat Rate Accident coverage for $9/month for dogs and $6/month for cats. (Available in most states). Two optional Wellness plans to cover routine care. 24/7 Pet Helpline, powered by whiskerDocs is included on all policies. The pay-out amount is based on your actual vet bill.

Payout Limits

$5000 -Unlimited annual limit, depending on your chosen plan. Unlimited lifetime limits.

Deductible

$50 – $1,000 annually.

Age Limits

Pet must be at least 7 weeks old to enroll. Pets Best does not restrict coverage or availability for older pets.

Waiting Period

A waiting period refers to the amount of time after enrolling before your pet is eligible for coverage. Waiting periods vary by the type of coverage and start on the effective date of your policy. Once met, waiting periods are waived for continuous, uninterrupted policy renewals. Pets Best offers some of the shortest waiting periods in the industry following the policy effective date. Get a quote for specific information on waiting periods in your state.

Exclusions

Pre-existing conditions are not covered. Elective and preventive procedures are not covered.
