This is NOT OKAY!!
Their appeals process treats you like a criminal and is extremely slow. We've filed an appeal which is now taking over a month to undo their improper rejection of my dog's surgery. I have multiple dogs and we decided based on our history with our oldest English bulldog we should invest in some insurance for our youngest English. She started favoring her back left leg and we took her into our vet who determined she has a strained/damaged cruciate ligament which he believed would develop into a full tear if left untreated. So we scheduled surgery only to receive a rejection notice from Pets Best a few days before taking her in. It was rejected because they said it was a pre existing condition before insurance was established. I called to ask for further explanation and was told 2 years ago we text(sent a text message via personal cell phones) a vet saying our dog's leg seemed hurt and before bringing her in; did they think it was worth the visit? Texts ended with "just watch her for a few days and if it progresses bring her in". Then unbeknownst to us the vet added this record to our youngest pup's file claiming it to be a cruciate ligament injury. No exam, no official consult and no further treatment after text. The kicker being this was our eldest dog's paw the text made no claim to which pet (we have 3 total)... Now we've appealed with a letter from the vet admitting the record was attached to the wrong dog and in error. It's been about a month under appeal now. I called today because as predicted by the vet I believe it is a full tear now. Scheduled surgery but it'll be 2 weeks of my dog suffering before they can fit her in... Now I'm told they've requested my other dog's complete medical history before they'll process my appeals claim. So I've waited a month just to be told we need to submit an unrelated dog's complete medical history for a text which we never followed up on and a diagnosis that was not correct or confirmed. One, why did no one call or email that they needed more information rather than making us wait? If I hadn't called would this still not be processed? I asked to speak with a claims processer and was told they're too busy dealing with appeals(so apparently they have a hefty rejection work load), then I asked to speak someone else (anyone) and was rudely told no one else can do anything. They've literally treated my wife an I like criminals trying to cheat the system. Honestly a random text from 2 years ago was not in my memory until it was being quoted to me on the phone. I'm more upset because not only is it unrelated but they never physically saw a dog. Now I feel like a terrible pet owner because I've made my poor dog wait during this appeal for absolutely no purpose. I absolutely hate this company and my family's experience with them.
