Fast turnaround

I submitted my first claim on 2/19 and Pets Best reimbursed on 2/21. Just waiting for it to clear through my bank. This was a wellness visit for my new puppy and I do have the wellness add-on.

Good plan for catastrophic events marginal for healthy dogs

The good: Filing claims is easy Reimbursement CAN be fast (some claims are filed and reimbursed within one credit card billing cycle) Customer service does not seem to be outsourced, are efficient, follow up with your questions, and are not pushy. It's great to reduce costs when you have a young dog and an emergency situation arises. The bad: Fine print - your co-pay comes out BEFORE your deductible so you can end up paying more than anticipated. Doesn't cover routine dental (other than the case scenario below) Exam visits are only covered if you choose the higher cost plan/they are a-la-carte coverage Doesn't cover annual visits - you need a secondary wellness plan and it's not super cost effective unless you're getting spay/neuter (the spay neuter cost can apply to a dental cleaning but any dental cleaning I've had had been SIGNIFICANTLY higher than the $150 limit) Wellness plan didn't cover the entire cost of yearly vaccines, and covers some things that aren't standard care/necessary so overall cost savings is marginal bc to use all your benefits you have to do "extra" screenings. The cost for my older dog skyrocketed between age 7/8 (raised 40%) Overall: It's a decent plan if you have a young dog and have an emergency situation or a lifestyle that is higher risk for sickness or accidents, and you're not good at saving money. (My 1.5y/o dog broke his leg and I was happy I had the insurance bc we just gave carte blanche to do what needed to be done to fix him. However any cost savings will be negated after holding insurance for two dogs for 2 years) OR if you have an older dog where you're concerned about age-related illnesses and don't want to worry about cost of care for potential issues like kidney failure, cancer, etc. I would NOT recommend the wellness plan unless you're already interested in doing the full range of screenings/care covered and want a marginal cost reduction.

Beware of small print

Extremely disappointed that this insurance will not cover required follow-up vaccinations for a puppy if administered by a tech vet. I just found this out and find it crazy that a Vet (at a higher cost) who administers the shots would be covered. I will be shopping other pet insurance companies to ensure this is not in the "small" print. Just ridiculous.

Reliable but Not Timely

Pets Best has been my insurance for over 3 years now. I really like the ease of uploading claims/forms. I also like that there's an easily accessible app for your phone which saves your pet's information and veterinary information. But, their app is often down or not working and the claims take months or more to process. Also, there are a lot of medications or preventative supplements that are not covered and wellness items are limited every year. Additionally, their monthly costs do go up quite often and I can not switch companies since my dog is older and now has preexisting conditions. Overall, my experiences have been pleasant but there are a few things that could use minor improvements.
