Your deductible is really higher than what you think you're getting
I used Pets Best in the past for another dog. Back then, it was a fraction of what I'm paying now (less than 25% of what I'm paying for a young Labrador. This was a senior great Dane who should have been much more expensive). Maybe, the more something costs, the more you expect out of the service. My two most recent claims were my first with this young dog and I knew that they would go toward the deductible.
What I didn't know (and what the company did not do in the past) was take a "co-insurance" out of my deductible. In other words, instead of, for example, putting my $100 vet bill toward my $500 deductible, they only put $80, since I selected an 80/20 plan. I've never in my life seen this done before. So, my $500 deductible is really a $600 deductible. It's dishonest, and I have no idea if this is even legal. We have my other dog on Hartsville. I may switch.
