Dental Procedure Costs

My dog had dental X-Rays in January 2023. Ended up having 2 additional teeth removed (my dog never had a set of X-Rays taken and due 1 tooth falling out unexpectedly my vet recommended the X-Rays). I feel that ALL PET OWNERS SHOULD HAVE PET INSURANCE. Yes it is 1 more bill to pay each month; however, if your pet needs a surgery/procedure done that is costly, the pet insurance will help big time! The dental procedure for my dog without insurance to help me out would have been a little over $1,300.00 out of my own pocket! Who has money like that just sitting around??? With Nationwide Insurance, I pay my monthly premium (premium amount depends on the dog age and general health), after the $250 deductible is paid, Nationwide Pet will pay 90% of the claim and the owner only pays 10% of the claim. With my pet insurance through Nationwide Pet, I was able to afford to have my dog have dental X-Rays, plus have 2 bad teeth pulled out.

Terrible Service

This insurance has taken off some coverage because the veterinary office inadvertently added something from our other dog, which has already passed away almost one year. The doctor has written a letter to my insurance explaining this error. I have sent multiple times detailed medical records, including doctor notes and the letter mentioned above. Now, 6 month later they are asking yet again for medical records. This is unacceptable and their service is less than mediocre.

Pet Insurance That takes Care Of You And your Pet

I found out about Nationwide Pet Insurance through an extra benefit that was being offered through our benefits at my place of employment. Needless to say I jumped at the opportunity and added Nationwide Pet Insurance as a part of my benefits because at the time we had two cats in our home at that time. Knowing the importance of taking care of your pets and their health is important to any pet owner. Each year we take our pets in for their check ups and when it is done I have filed a claim through Nationwide and in just a very short time when nationwide has received my claims and processed in just a few days I have received a check to my bank to help with the expense. We recently went through the process with Riley who is five and is a real sweetheart. I am just amazed hour quickly how everything is done and we will continue to do so with each visit we take our cats to our veterinarian whether for a check up or illness. Nationwide is the right insurance that takes care of you and your pet. William Graham Birmingham, Alabama

Nationwide is not on your side

Has been with Nationwide since my dog was a puppy. Have been paying $55 a month. Year one my puppy had a problem with her leg (ligament). Was told after the fact it was not covered first year. Now, that my dog is 5, tried to file a claim for well care and vaccinations ( i had a plan that is supposed to cover sick and wellness) c just to find out my plan had expired. When i called they told me that i have not paid for over a year although they had my current credit card on file and i was enrolled in automatic payments. They told me then my policy could not be reactivated and i had to re-apply. They requested my dog’s medical records in order to issue new policy, which i provided because i just had an annual checkup which I didn’t get reimbursed for. A week later got an email saying my dog was not eligible for coverage because her ALT was elevated ( liver enzymes), which my doctor told me we need not work about unless they are constantly elevated or keep going up. Nationwide is not on your side. I was so fed up with this, applied for another insurance and was immediately accepted for a lot less.

Not Great

I have Nationwide Pet Insurance. I recently (July 2023) had to spend over $1,000 on my 17 yo cat. I got $200 back. I spend $117 a month on pet insurance. Not worth it. Planning on changing companies this month. Other insurance plans out there (even for a 17 yo cat!) that are comparable that let you pick deductible and how much you are reimbursed.

Monthly Cost

Policies start at approximately $12 per month.

Coverage

Nationwide offers a variety of plans offering varying levels of coverage. The company’s most popular plan, Whole Pet with Wellness, offers 90% reimbursement for accident, injury, illness and wellness care, inclusive of exam fees. All Nationwide members have complimentary 24/7 access to vethelpline.

Payout Limits

Depending on the plan selected, there may be annual benefit limits or per incident benefit allowances. There is no annual limit for the company’s most popular plan, Whole Pet with Wellness.

Deductible

Annual deductibles range from $0 to $1,000. Most popular annual deductible for Whole Pet with Wellness is $250.

Age Limits

No age restriction to enroll in company’s most popular plan, Whole Pet with Wellness. Other plans may have age restrictions.

Waiting Period

14-day waiting period after application approved and payment of premium is received.

Exclusions

Pre-existing conditions are not covered on any plans (if a condition is curable, it may be eligible for review if pet remains treatment-free for at least six months). Whole Pet with Wellness covers nearly all veterinary expenses. Notable exclusions include boarding and grooming.
Since 1982, Nationwide has helped pet owners protect what matters most. As the largest provider of pet health insurance in the U.S., Nationwide currently insures over 600,000 dogs, cats, birds and exotic pets for medical conditions related to illnesses, injuries accidents and wellness care. In 2015, it introduced Whole Pet with Wellness, the only U.S. pet health insurance plan offering complete coverage for injuries, accidents, illnesses and wellness care. Policies range from nose-to-tail coverage to routine pet care plans that offer reimbursement for wellness exams and preventive treatments.
