Out Dated Payment Schedule

We have had this insurance for over 12 years, without any major claims until now. Premium is about $1800 annually for two dogs. This year we had two big claims, 1. bowel obstruction, 2. growth on splean. They use a very outdated UCR payment schedule. Basically, they only pay a portion of what these services cost 10 years ago. They paid only about 35% of the actual bill for these two major claims. After review, this VPI is not worth the premium. Spent more on this insurance than our regular vet bills. We will not be renewing.

Glad we bought it

Our pit-bull hound mix is almost 9 years old. We bought VPI (now Nationwide) 3 years ago. She has a preexisting condition that is not covered (incontinence) but she is otherwise healthy. In August 2014 and April 2015 we had to have 2 dental surgeries. Our deductible is $500 but the surgeries themselves were about 2k each. No hassles at all. The Vet's office filed the claim for us and we got a check from Nationwide in about 2 weeks. Although her annual premiums will rise with her age, we will definetly renew every year. We just can't have her suffering from a broken tooth or an abcess. The alterative would be to pay out of pocket, on our credit card.

Thankful for Pet Insurance

Prissy, my precious Bichon Frise, had to have cruciate ligament surgery on her hind leg. When the Vet told me the price of the surgery, I was hoping that her pet insurance would cover a lot of the cost. When I called the insurance company, they told me that the insurance would cover all but the deductible of $250. I was very pleasantly surprised and very thankful as I knew that I would have to borrow money if I had to cover the cost of the surgery. I am very pleased with Prissy's insurance. I had actually thought of dropping it before I knew she needed this surgery. I am very thankful that I did not drop it. Prissy is 13 years old, so I anticipate her having medical problems as she gets older. Right now, her health is great. Thank you Nationwide for this pet insurance program. Judy Hames

glad i have insurance

This is the first pet I've had (she's number 64) that has had major problems continuously. Bought insurance for her about 4 years ago with VPI and have been very satisfied with their service. The cost of the insurance has been made up by the coverage of the vet fees. For me, it's really peace of mind.

Worst Pet Insurance Company

My pup was diagnosed with renal failure and was hospitalized for 9 days-he was on his death bed but he was our baby and he was getting better with treatment-his bill was over $10,000 VPI proudly reimbursed me 10%-his care was only worth $680 after months of disputing the reimbursement I gave up and my babies are currently enrolled with Healthy Paws. The reason we get insurance is to ensure our pets get the best care possible without the owners going into debt. In the 2 1/2 years I have yet to break even on what I paid in premiums consider it my gift to this "pet insurance company"
