Life Saver!! Would be broke without it.

We were so glad to have purchased this for our large dog. When she turned 1 we noticed that she was limping and favoring one leg. I took her to a surgeon who determined that she needed both of her knees repaired. VPI covered about 90% of the bill.

Extremely Satisfied

My English bulldog recently tore her ACL. I called customer service to ask if the surgery was reimbursable and the rep was very friendly and helpful. My claim was paid in full, quickly with no hassle. With all the rehab and post op instructions, it's great to have one less thing to worry about. I highly recommend Nationwide pet insurance. It really couldn't be easier and gives me peace of mind when my dog is not well.

Extremely Complicated and Limits but has helped

Have been with VPI for 10 years and had small claims for the first 6 years. One of our dogs was stricken with cancer and VPI covered a little over 1/3 of the surgery and chemo (about $4000 of $10,000) which helped but I thought more would be covered. Various medical procedures have limits and good luck trying to figure out all their codes, etc. I want a plan where I submit an $800 vet bill and get reimbursed a good portion of it minus excuses for limits and refer to this code and that code about coverage, etc. Thanks to this website I'll be shopping for a possible new pet insurance company. VPI has taken care of us and I would possibly recommend them but I think there are other companies out there who will cover more at less cost and less complication.

Extremely pleased with this insurance

Yes, they only pay for emergencies with the plan we took out on our yorkie/pom, Nina, but she has had 2 of them in the 3 yrs. we've had her, so the insurance came in handy.

Only go by "codes"

My dog was impaled on a large branch in a creek. She had a hole in her belly the size of a quarter. The animal hospital had to operate on her overnight. They made a five inch incision to clean the wound and make sure there was no perforation of her stomach, and they installed a drain tube. The bills were over $1500. VPI/Nationwide treated it as a routine laceration and paid only $375. They said I couldn't talk to a medically trained reviewer, but could only talk to customer service, who would only talk about the "code." for laceration. They told me to go talk to my state insurance commissioner if I had a problem with it.
