Nationwide (VPI) Pet Insurance Absolutely Terrible

I was a long time VPI / Nationwide Pet Insurance policy holder and can attest to this company being one of the worst, least trustworthy, companies operating in the country. Unfortunately they do not really care about pets and behind their policies they construct absurd benefit schedules that severely limit how much money they will pay their clients no matter whether your pet suffers mild illnesses or need life-threatening surgery. I have spoken with many veterinarians, including my own, that all push their clients away from Nationwide and say they are the absolutely worst pet insurance company by far. If you care about your pet and want to be reimbursed appropriate sums of money for your vet bills, DO NOT EVEN CONSIDER Nationwide. They are snakes who do everything they can to avoid paying you and when crisis comes, they will scour their extensive restriction list to ensure they pay you as little (or nothing) as they can. ANY other pet insurance company is far superior to these crooks.

Worst Pet Insurance

We signed up with Nationwide for our little beagle. We wanted the insurance just in case something happen to him as we was getting older. We rescued him from a shelter, and never had any problems. After having Nationwide and paying into it for a couple months, we found out our little guy had lung cancer. We had no idea, and the cancer was so big that it must have been there all along....After finding this out, we knew that the insurance would not cover it because it was "pre existing" - - but Nationwide did everything in its power to pay NOTHING back - even if it was not pertaining to his lung cancer. I had to call the company SO many times; and i was always told i would get a call back - but i never did. So i had to keep calling back about my original concern. After they stated that they were going to refund my monthly payments back because since this was pre existing, we should have never been enrolled in the first place. Today is 10/06/2016 - and i have yet to see a dime from that company. The worst people i have had to deal with.

VPI (Nation Wide) is Terrible

I have been with this company for almost 10 years, they sometimes pay but not always. So I spend years without submitting a claim, I kept it simply in case of emergencies, but now that my dog is almost 10 and has medical issues they are not covering must of them. When I first got they only had one plan and it covered must every thing, however they stared coming up with different plans to charge more and if you don't keep up with them you end up with less coverage. Unfortunately now I can't go anywhere else and I am stuck paying vet bills and them as well. Last year he went through all of his benefits and didn't even had a medical emergency just for the medications and one or two x rays.

Excellent

I've had VPI for the past 14 years and have never had a problem with them. I took the Superior Plan and it was well worth it. My last visit at Dobson was $509 of which I am getting back $439.00. If there was ever a question of reimbursement, they have been more than glad to work with me and my vet. I would continue to use them.

Not there when you need them

Never a claim until my dog became terminally ill. Took him in and he passed away at vet. Nationwide is doing everything possible not to pay demanding years of records before they will review. DO NOT USE NATIONWIDE.

Monthly Cost

Policies start at approximately $12 per month.

Coverage

Nationwide offers a variety of plans offering varying levels of coverage. The company’s most popular plan, Whole Pet with Wellness, offers 90% reimbursement for accident, injury, illness and wellness care, inclusive of exam fees. All Nationwide members have complimentary 24/7 access to vethelpline.

Payout Limits

Depending on the plan selected, there may be annual benefit limits or per incident benefit allowances. There is no annual limit for the company’s most popular plan, Whole Pet with Wellness.

Deductible

Annual deductibles range from $0 to $1,000. Most popular annual deductible for Whole Pet with Wellness is $250.

Age Limits

No age restriction to enroll in company’s most popular plan, Whole Pet with Wellness. Other plans may have age restrictions.

Waiting Period

14-day waiting period after application approved and payment of premium is received.

Exclusions

Pre-existing conditions are not covered on any plans (if a condition is curable, it may be eligible for review if pet remains treatment-free for at least six months). Whole Pet with Wellness covers nearly all veterinary expenses. Notable exclusions include boarding and grooming.
Since 1982, Nationwide has helped pet owners protect what matters most.
