horrible expereince

I had healthy paws years ago for our previous pets and it was great, but I got it for our 2 new cats and so far it is has been horrible. Every single claim they reject for reasons that don't make sense. (They either say it is preventative when it is a test for symptoms) or they say it was during our waiting period when it was weeks after. Or when I send vet records (what the vet gave us) they say it isn't the correct records. Clearly just trying to give the run around and not pay. Really disappointed.

Nicki - We’re sorry for any frustration during the recent processing of your claims. After a thorough review of your account, there was some confusion regarding the notations in your pet’s medical records. Our team reached out to your veterinarian for the necessary documents for clarification. Our team worked with a senior claims processor and your claims have been processed. The denied claims you spoke of in your review were also appealed and processed.

Life Saving!

My two dogs have been insured with Healthy Paws for 9 years now. We waivered on getting pet insurance until a family member went through a major medical event with their pup. They also had Healthy Paws, and when we saw they had $9k in vet bills in one month to save their baby, we were sold on it. Between both of our large dogs, we have been through multiple surgeries for various reasons. I don't think there has been a year gone by that at least one of our dogs didn't meet the deductible! We had root canals for injuries, emergency visits, one tendon repair, bone fusion, cancer removal, cancer treatment, amputation, splenectomy, and other issues. We sadly had to let one of our boys go this year. We forgot to submit the last claim for months. They let us submit well after his passing. We know how agonizing it would be to have to choose between the health of your furry baby and paying the mortgage. It's not cheap, but the plan we chose has worked well for us! We have NEVER had an issue with reimbursement. Claims are easy to file and promptly processed and directly deposited. The fine print isn't too fine. You know what you're getting. There was ONE instance the charges on my bill were not properly labeled, and all I had to do was resubmit with an explanation. I'm thankful for the referral. Our big boys have received the best possible care because of pet insurance.

Policy premiums increase EVERY year. Double within 2 years

I have had a policy with Healthy Paws for less than 2 years and my premium has DOUBLED!!!. This is extortion. NOT WORTH IT AT ALL. Reading other reviews as well looks like they increase their premiums EVERY YEAR. This is absolutely ridiculous especially since there are no added benefits to the price increase. Look elsewhere for insurance, trust me you will regret getting a policy with them as much as I am regretting it.

Horrible experience with this company

I had Healthy Paws for nearly a decade, and they assured me that they would never raise premiums based on age or claims. Unfortunately, that promise changed. When my dog turned 8/9 years old, they've increased his premium to $250 a month, which is more than my own health insurance. Looking back, I regret paying the increasing rates over the years. In ten years, I had only been reimbursed between $250 and $500 but paid exponentially. My dog had been with Healthy Paws since he was just a few weeks old. A few months before the largest premium hike, he had a $350 emergency visit that they denied, claiming it was a pre-existing condition. This was puzzling, as he had no prior conditions, and I had to have a check-up at their request prior to him being insured. They even asked me to resend all his records from the past years. After some back and forth, they eventually paid some of the claim, minus a $100 deductible, but the stress of dealing with them while taking care of my sick dog and the insane premium increases caused me to cancel my insurance as I wasn’t seeing the value for what I had been paying. I strongly recommend looking elsewhere for pet insurance or considering setting aside money in a savings or money market account instead. Be sure to check Better Business Bureau reviews before making a decision. I've looked into potential class action suits but only found one in Washington.
