LOVE! Healthy Paws!!!

Would recommend 100% Healthy Paws. My chocolate lab Pablo has been a client of Healthy Paws since he was 5 months old. I cannot say how easy the claims, communications has been with them. They go above and beyond for their pets. Pablo has had 2 major surgeries in the past 4 months from beginning to the final surgery all communication has been great, claims from start to finish easy no issues. They even checked on Pablo after his surgeries.

Worst Customer Service & Ridiculous Premium Increases

I have been a customer of Healthy Paws Pet Insurance since 2016, that's over 6 years. I spend a ton of money with them. For the first 4 years, I was pretty happy with the amount I paid and the reimbursements, but last year, they raised the price a ridiculous amount, $174.80 per month!!!!! I still paid it since my dogs are older (10 and 15) and needed the coverage and I was under the impression this was a one time increase. At the beginning of this month, I noticed that my bill had been increased another $91.07 per month bringing my monthly bill to over $400 per month! I called on 2/3 when my new bill came out on 1/31 (only 3 days prior) and asked about why the increase happened. I was told that it was due to my bills I was submitting which makes no sense. Insurance is here to protect us from when things happen. This is why every year I paid it year after year, not to just increase it to absorb the bills. I ended up lowering my coverage and increasing my deductible to lower my monthly payment. I simply asked that they make my request (3 days late) to be retroactive for the month of February and I was told no. I asked to speak to a supervisor and the woman on the phone, clearly reading from a script, just said there's nothing she can do. I submitted a complaint online that day. Finally, today, 17 days later, I was called by a woman saying that she heard I needed to talk to a supervisor. When I told her everything and asked just to make my changes retroactive for 3 days, it was the same "no" story over and over again. This was the worst customer service I have ever experienced! I would not suggest Healthy Paws to anyone!

Still the best pet insurance

As soon as we adopted our dogs from the shelter in 2015, I signed them up for healthy paws. Years before I had VPI which was a hassle with the mail in forms, the guessing game of what was covered and how much. I liked Healthy Paws for the straight forward 80% coverage without limits. Over the years we've used them, and I'd say most years it about paid for itself. I've always loved the simple claims process. You just take a picture of the invoice and upload it to the app. The direct deposit means I pretty much always have the reimbursement in my account within 7 days. We've always kind of thought one of our dogs might need surgery one day because she has bilateral luxating patellas. Instead, in 2022, our other dog tore her ACL and needed surgery. $5,000 plus $500 for physical therapy. Having healthy paws made everything so much less stressful and that I never had to hesitate to make sure she was getting the best option and not the suboptimal treatment. I was a little nervous because it was our first big claim and I assumed there would be some pushback. Not even a little. It was processed quickly like any other claim. I even got a separate email from them saying they saw the surgery come through and hoped Hendrix was healing quickly. They even covered PT for her to do aqua therapy. I think the pricing is fair and the policy is the most straightforward and logical. My sister's dog got Lymphoma and their pet insurance had a $2,000 annual limit for chemo. That's not exactly helpful when chemo is $6,000. And what's the likelihood of needing chemo every year (smh)? I do shop around just to see what new ones are on the market and I will continue to praise Healthy Paws as the best pet insurance. One other thing that comes up often is people glossing over them maybe because they don't have a wellness plan. You get pet insurance because you don't ever want to be in a position where you have to choose between paying the mortgage and your dogs life. Routine vet visits will not break the bank. There are so many low cost clinics and low cost vaccines for the day to day stuff. Annual exams aren't a surprise and so you can plan. Don't pay extra for a plan with "wellness" because more often than not, you could just pay that out of pocket for less. Go with an accident/illness plan for the unexpected. Like days where you give a dog a grape because your childhood dog loved grapes. Then your husband asks Alexa if grapes are safe for dogs, and she says, "Grapes are toxic and can be lethal of given to dogs. If your dog has eaten a grape, seek veterinary care immediately." So you drop everything to run to vet so they can induce vomiting and keep her overnight for observation and make sure her kidneys don't fail. (True story and Healthy Paws was great through that too.)

Great Experience with Healthy Paws

I have had a Healthy Paws plan for about 7 years. I have found the rates to be reasonable during this time. I recently submitted a claim and was reimbursed according to my plan’s details. The process was extremely simple and fast.

Monthly Cost

$15 – $90, depending on breed, zip code, age of pet and choice of deductible and co-pay.

Coverage

One plan covers accidents, illnesses, cancer, emergency care, genetic conditions, alternative care and more. You can choose a co-pay of 10%, 20%, 30% or 40%. The pay-out amount is based on your actual vet bill.

Payout Limits

No per incident, annual or lifetime pay-out limit.

Deductible

You can choose an annual deductible of $100, $250, $500 or $750* *Choice depends on age of the pet

Age Limits

Pets must be at least 8 weeks old and under 14 years old at time of enrollment. Once enrolled, pets can stay insured regardless of age.

Waiting Period

Coverage begins 15 days after your policy starts. There is a 12-month waiting period for hip dysplasia claims.

Exclusions

Pre-existing conditions are not covered. Hereditary and congenital conditions are covered, however hip dysplasia is only covered in pets who enroll before they are 6 years old.
