Healthy Paws | Pet Insurance Review

Three weeks ago my wonderful Havanese, Havey, suddenly seemed criticially ill. Havey is an 11 year old Therapy dog and has brought much happiness and joy to others. I immediately brought him to the animal hospital and after x-rays, blood work and ultrasound it was discovered that he had a ruptured gall bladder. A ruptured gall bladder is life threatening;bile was pouring into his system. Emergency surgery was done to remove his gall bladder and part of his liver and to clean out the area since he had peritonitis. The surgeon told me that this was one of the most dangerous types of surgery since 30 to 50 percent of dogs die from complications in the first week after surgery. Therefore I wanted to make sure Havey had the best care available to optimize his odds. Havey remained in CCU [intensive care] for 5 days after surgery hooked up to various medications and nourishment and had a stomach drain tube and bag. He had constant round the clock care.I actually was afraid to know what the cost of his care was. I am so thankful to Healthy Paws. Having one of their top of the line plans took away the financial stress. My invoice amount was $5596.62. Havey's surgery was less than 3 weeks ago and I have already received a check for $4781.66 from them. It seemed to take them onlyabout a week after receiving my claim to process the reimbursement. Over the course of a few months our puppy had a couple of minor illnesses (ear infection, diarrhea), & then she broke her toe, and had an allergic reaction to a bee sting. I first submitted a claim for the broken toe, & Healthy Paws recommended I submit claims for the previous illnesses. Healthy Paws has been fantastic. I received emails confirming each claim the same day they were sent in, and received another email when the claim was processed and the check was on its way. In all, I think we had 5 or 6 claims over a couple of months, and we received reimbursement checks less than 1 week after submitting each claim. And the customer service has been wonderful - warm, caring, and considerate.

After reviewing all the pet insurance options out there, I felt that Healthy Paws had the best prices and coverage. Not long after getting Healthy Paws to cover my 2 young German Shephards, I had to use it. Both my dogs weigh about 100 lbs and play rough, which has led to multiple sprains. The X-ray costs are not cheap and I was bringing my dogs in practically every other month with a sprain or injury. The reimbursement came in very quickly. I also was amazed that after my vet sent them their records the very first time, I got an email the same day stating they received the records and wished my dogs were ok. I like how they keep you in the loop on the reimbursement process and follow up with a personal friendly phone call.

Our active one and a half year old dog, Joey, suddenly began limping after playing at the park. A vet visit, diagnostic tests and then a consult with a surgeon confirmed bilateral elbow dysplasia. This was completely unexpected, and additional treatment (CT Scan, possible surgery) will cost several thousand dollars.As anyone may imagine, this has been and is very stressful news. However, we have been thrilled with the prompt, efficient, professional and friendly service we have received from Healthy Paws. Submitting a claim was so easy, and we received reimbursement within one week! On top of that, our questions about coverage were answered right away and we were told that Healthy Paws would, in fact cover any further tests or surgery needed. I have 2 rescue cats, who are now 4 & 5 years old. I had researched several pet insurance companies when they were kittens but could never make a decision because of all the confusing contractual jargon of what "might" be covered and more of what would not. This is the first company that clearly defines their policy. I called and spoke directly to the Claims Manager who patiently and willingly answered all my questions. I will now be telling everyone I come in contact with who have furry family members, to look into and buy this protection for the peace of mind they deserve!
