If you're considering pet insurance, just get Healthy Paws and save yourself hours of research. This is the best insurance I've had in my entire life (of any kind).
I had Healthy Paws on my middle-aged dog for ~3 years before submitting a serious claim (more than $100) - A cancer tumor removal surgery with a bill of $1600. Healthy Paws reimbursed me in a FEW DAYS after receiving the claim. No questions asked, got a check for ~$1300 AND they even emailed me to ask how my dog was and hoped he was doing well. That's AMAZING! My human health insurance doesn't care about me anywhere near that much.
Since then I've filed multiple smaller claims this year ($50-150) and they've paid every one promptly, no hassle. I'm a customer for life. If you have a pet that goes outside, health insurance is a great investment. For indoor-only pets it's a harder call but I still think it can have big benefits (like not weighing money vs. your animal's life when things go bad).

Best decision I could have made
I've been a member of Healthy Paws since my puppy was 10 weeks old. She's 6 years old now. I debated when we got her whether or not we would want to get insurance for her, but at less than $40/month it was an easy decision. Plus we could cancel anytime.
Now, 6 years later, it is literally one of the best decisions I've ever made. My puppy (who will always be a puppy even when she's 6 years old) has managed to...
* Eat chocolate bars 3 times (Three ER Visits)
* Eaten something else that made her horribly sick (1 ER Visit)
* Had 6 lump biopsies
* Had 2 teeth removed because they broke
* Had multiple stool sample tests for giardia & other digestive issues
* Had blood tests prior to both oral surgeries
and many many more
Beyond her general check-ups, every single doctor’s visit has resulted in a payment back to us by Healthy Paws. At this point in her 6 year live we have easily spent $10,000 on various medical visits, and she's actually a very healthy & low maintenance dog.
Almost more than anything, having Healthy Paws means I don't even need to think about the cost of keeping my dog healthy. It doesn't even cross my mind when issues come up. "Oh, she cracked a tooth...let's take it out before it gets abscessed." There's simply no question. Without Healthy Paws, that one tooth would have cost me over $1000. Also, the reality is that I would go into serious debt to make sure my dog was healthy. I’d do almost anything in the world for her, even if it meant I would be put into a challenging financial position. Thankfully, that’s not an issue. Thankfully, I got healthy paws!
Btw, another perk is that they are SO easy to work with. You submit your medical bill, you get a check in the mail. Easy as it could be. Too bad human insurance companies aren’t that easy.
After doing our research and speaking to everyone in our circle of friends we decided to use Healthy Paws hoping to never need their help. The process was easy and all was well but the true test is when you need them.
Our dog was hit by a car while my wife and I were out of the country and she was staying with my folks. It was a dumb and senseless accident that left our dog with a dislocated and fractured spine. While talking to the doctor at the animal hospital they suggested that if we have insurance...now would be the time to discuss our options since the dog would need an MRI, surgery and likely long term rehabilitation. I called Healthy Paws in a panic to see what our options were just to get the ball rolling and they were...are...amazing. They calmed me down, walked me through my policy and get the hospital to contact them directly to cut the red tape so my wife and I could catch a plane home. The level of care and support that they showed and continue to show...just floors me. They treated me like family and have been holding my hand every step of the way. Through everything that has happened they reach out to check on the dog and on my family.
I can't recommend them more. They are something far and above what I expected and are true heroes to my family.

Couldn't Have Saved her Without You!
My little boxer mix Khaleesi, loves to chase lizards. Not much brings her comparable joy, and living in Arizona she has limitless resources. When her back legs started to become weak, the vet explained she had bi-lateral cruciate ligament tears and needed serious surgery on both of her legs to regain function. The estimate they provided almost took my breath away - then I remembered I had Healthy Paws Pet Insurance and my breath returned, with a tear knowing I would be reimbursed for 80% and be able to cover the cost of the surgery. But it meant more than that - it meant my rescue pup - only 18 months old, can enjoy the rest of her life running around with her brothers, chasing the lizards (dragons) that gave her her name. I will never be able to thank Healthy Paws enough, but you can be sure I will keep it as long as I have my dogs. Did I mention my other boxer ate a sock and a shoestring and needed surgery too? You get the point by now. GET THIS INSURANCE!!!
