Relieved that I had Healthy Paws insurance!

I have heard stories from other pet owners about the worthlessness of having pet insurance. My friends would ask why I didn't just put that $40-50/month into a savings account accessible immediately if I needed it. If I'd taken that approach I know that I never would have continued to save due to more urgent financial concerns. So when my 11-year old, 20 lb. terrier mix had a cranial cruciate ligament tear I was relieved that I'd kept up my coverage with Healthy Paws Pet Insurance. Between our regular vet's bill for diagnosis and the surgeon's bill for treatment the total was almost $4000. After my $500 deductible was met Healthy Paws covered 90% of the remaining amount. Since this was the first claim I had ever made I had to have all of her records sent in. I was worried that my claim would be challenged because I'd recently changed vets and my dog had a different operation on the same leg 8 years ago. But once they received all of her medical records Healthy Paws posted the amount of my reimbursement on my account page and had a check in the mail. Having recently retired I appreciated knowing that a large part of the bill was covered!

Surgery is a major decision for your loved one

I got my beagle Bailey in April 2013. Beagles are hearty and healthy dogs, so I felt I didn’t need to purchase insurance for him. One day he was kind of off, so I took him to my vet. They gave him some meds and I took him home. He was still off, drooling and very stand off-ish. Normally he wants to be by your side, but he was paranoid. So, it was too late to go back to my vet, so I went to urgent care and he ended up spending the night. Well, after that night and that bill, I decided that I might need to purchase pet insurance. I looked at what was around and what my fellow dog park friends had and decided to go with Healthy Paws. The site is easy to use and it was easy to sign up. Of course as you know, once you buy insurance you never need it. I even got a second beagle and put on her on the insurance plan. Years have gone by and I’m still paying their monthly insurance fees. Occasionally the rates go up and I continue to pay the increased fee. However, this last time it went up, I decided to reduce my coverage because I’m paying for two beagles and my pups are solid. a pet is a huge responsibility, but also a very Well, in July my older Beagle Bailey somehow hurt himself after the dogpark. I didn’t know how this could be because he’s always sitting with people getting petted and occasionally runs around. He was slow going up our stairs and couldn’t jump up on the couch. When I picked him up, he would yelp. I took him to my vet the next day and he was prescribed some meds and had to take it easy. After a week of rest, he was going up the stairs by himself and could even jump up onto the couch. This was great and back to the dogpark we went. Not a good idea, because he was hurt again. So, I contacted my vet, got new pills and strict rest for him. He wasn’t getting better and had pain in his lower back, which my vet thought might be a slipped disc. We got an appointment to see a neurologist where we can get an MRI done. Our options were limited, take him off and 4 weeks of crate rest and it may or may not get better. If you do this and it doesn’t get better then he’ll need surgery and then another 4 weeks of crate rest. Otherwise, do the surgery and 4 weeks of crate rest. My options were limited and Bailey stared at me and with those expressive brown eyes was telling me he was going to be fine and we should just go home. I on the other-hand being the adult wanted what was best for him and having pet insurance, the decision was not a difficult one.

A True Godsend!

I am SO thankful we have Healthy Paws Pet Insurance! We went through expensive vet bills with our two previous Bull Terriers and, upon adopting our newest Bully decided to get insurance for her as soon as we brought her home. I read many reviews and Healthy Paws almost seemed too good to be true but I enrolled and, boy, I am SO thankful I did. We rescued this sweet girl from a shelter and HP covered her checkups and meds when she had little ailments but the real test was when she was found to have a heart problem. We thought that was going to be the end of this pup who was given a rotten hand in life - 1st being dumped in the country then this! Healthy Paws came through and reimbursed for her regular vet, the cardiologist and the meds she is now on to deal with her issue. Never a question, never a problem, they just came through. If we didn't have Healthy Paws in our corner, we would have had to put this otherwise happy and healthy pup down due to the expense. Instead, she's living every rescue dog's dream in her fur-ever home. I sing Healthy Paws praises to every pet parent I meet. Our Bully is living proof that this company, and it's services, are amazing and the cost is a no-brainer when compared to the cost of ONE incident paid out-of-pocket. On the technical side, submitting a claim is super-easy: I just go to the Healthy Paws app on my mobile phone, take a picture of the vet bill and hit send and within about 1 week, the check is in my mailbox! I love this company and hope this review helps save pet parents some money and, more importantly, save a fur-baby's life, like our little rescue Kona.

Buy this insurance NOW!

I just have to say how incredibly grateful I am for Healthy Paws. We've had our two 6 year-old labs insured with them since they were 11 months old. One has been mostly no trouble (only one claim in 5 years); the other is a different story - starting from mere weeks after we were insured ($1,200) and up to this past week where we just had to treat him for a lung tumor at the young age of 6 (so far, $12,000 and we're looking at more treatment ahead for him, too). For sure, as pet owners, we know we're likely going to out-live our pets; and I now know we will have a reduced life span with our guy because of the cancer, but the relief that comes along with not having to choose between their life or quality of treatment and money is indescribable. Not to mention, they are super fast with reimbursement (one time, the check was on the way to me as I was on the way home from the vet), make it very easy to submit claims (app on my phone), have direct deposit into my checking account, and the customer service is impeccable. If you do not have this pet insurance, get it now! (And no, they aren't paying me to say this - they are, however, paying for my pet to be healthy!)

The best pet insurance company, bar none!

We had two major surgeries for our pets, one for our dog, and one for our cat. The dog has to undergo multiple surgeries for a genetic condition that'll allow the knee to come out of its socket. The total bill was over $4000 and was paid out without an issue. The cat had a freak accident that ran our bill into the mid 3000 dollar range. Healthy Paws covered it all without question. They are courteous, professional and awesome with following-up on your pet's condition. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
